The objective of this study is to Analyze the Financial Position and Performance of the Axis and Kotak Mahindra Bank in India based on their financial characteristics. We have chosen the CAMEL model and t-test which measures the performance of bank from each of the important parameter like capital adequacy, asset quality, management efficiency, earning quality, liquidity and Sensitivity. The present study is conducted analyze the consistency of the profitability of the Axis and Kotak Mahindra bank’s. It is analyses that (...) the ratio of credit deposit is maximum of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd and it shows efficient management of the bank. The ratio of earning per share is maximum for Axis Bank Ltd i.e. 50.28 and the ratio of return on Assets is minimum for Axis Bank Ltd. The CAMELS’ analysis and t-test concludes that there is no significance difference between the Axis and Kotak Mahindra bank’s financial performance but the Kotak Mahindra bank performance is slightly less compared with Axis Bank. The primary responsibility of the US Food and Drug Administration is to protect public health by ensuring the safety of the food supply. To that end, it sometimes conducts risk assessments of novel food products, such as genetically modified food. The FDA describes its regulatory review of GM food as a purely scientific activity, untainted by any normative considerations. This paper provides evidence that the regulatory agency is not justified in making that claim. It is argued that the FDA’s policy (...) stance on GM food is shaped by neoliberal considerations. The agency’s review of a genetically engineered animal, the AquAdvantage salmon, is used as a case study to track the influence of neoliberalism on its regulatory review protocol. After that, an epistemic argument justifying public engagement in the risk assessment of new GM food is outlined. It is because risk evaluations involve normative judgments, in a democracy, layperson representatives of informal epistemic communities that could be affected by a new GM food should have the opportunity to decide the ethical, political or other normative questions that arise during the regulatory review of that entity. This paper argues that regulatory agencies have a responsibility to further the public interest when they determine the conditions under which new technological products may be commercialized. As a case study, this paper analyzes the US 9th Circuit Court’s ruling on the efforts of the US Environmental Protection Agency to regulate an herbicide meant for use with seed that are genetically modified to be tolerant of the chemical. Using that case, it is argued that when regulatory agencies evaluate new technological (...) products, they have an obligation to draw on data, analyses, and evaluations from a variety of credible epistemic sources, and not rely solely or even primarily on the technology developer. Otherwise, they create conditions for their own domination and that of the polity by the technology developer. Moreover, in the interest of advancing the public interest, regulatory agencies must evaluate new technologies in a substantively and procedurally unbiased manner. (shrink)

Genetically engineered (GE) insects, such as the GE OX513A Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, have been designed to suppress their wild-type populations so as to reduce the transmission of vector-borne diseases in humans. Apart from the ecological and epidemiological uncertainties associated with this approach, such biotechnological approaches may be used by individual governments or the global community of nations to avoid addressing the underlying structural, systemic causes of those infections... We discuss here key ethical questions raised by the use of GE mosquitoes, (...) with the aim of fostering discussion between the public, researchers, policy makers, healthcare organizations, and regulatory agencies at the local, national, and international levels. We affect that goal by outlining a procedural approach to decision-making about the use of the “biotechnology” that goes beyond “community engagement.” The protocol we advocate for entails informed deliberations and decision-making at the community level. It is designed to ensure that the voices of the marginalized and vulnerable groups that would be disproportionately affected by the decision are heard during the community-wide discussions. Moreover, we make the case that the values embedded in the risk assessment should be identified so that the community can make an informed decision about the use of GE insects. In addition, we advocate for the involvement of a variety of actors whose responsibility would be to ensure that the community has the opportunity to make an informed decision based on deliberations about the use of the “biotechnology.”. In recent years, genetically engineered (GE) mosquitoes have been proposed as a public health measure against the high incidence of mosquito-borne diseases among the poor in regions of the global South. While uncertainties as well as risks for humans and ecosystems are entailed by the open-release of GE mosquitoes, a powerful global health governance non-state organization is funding the development of and advocating the use of those bio-technologies as public health tools. In August 2016, the US Food and Drug Agency (...) (FDA) approved the uncaged field trial of a GE Aedes aegypti mosquito in Key Haven, Florida. The FDA’s decision was based on its assessment of the risks of the proposed experimental public health research project. The FDA is considered a global regulatory standard setter. So, its approval of the uncaged field trial could be used by proponents of GE mosquitoes to urge countries in the global South to permit the use of those bio-technologies. -/- From a public health ethics perspective, this paper evaluates the FDA’s 2016 risk assessment of the proposed uncaged field trial of the GE mosquito to determine whether it qualified as a realistic risk evaluation. -/- The FDA’s risk assessment of the proposed uncaged field trial did not proximate the conditions under which the GE mosquitoes would be used in regions of the global South where there is a high prevalence of mosquito-borne diseases. -/- Given that health and disease have political-economic determinants, whether a risk assessment of a product is realistic or not particularly matters with respect to interventions meant for public health problems that disproportionately impact socio-economically marginalized populations. If ineffective public health interventions are adopted based on risk evaluations that do not closely mirror the conditions under which those products would actually be used, there could be public health and ethical costs for those populations. Thomas Kelly's book 'Bias: A philosophical study', is a philosophical exploration of the phenomena of bias and our practice of attributing it. He delves into the multifaceted nature of bias and offers a norm theoretic account for conceptualizing the phenomenon as typically involving "systematic departures from the norms". As a topic of inquiry, bias has attracted comparatively less attention in philosophy than in other disciplines like psychology and statistics. Hence, this book is an interesting and relevant read. Scholars working in (...) the areas of ethics, epistemology and social epistemology can greatly benefit from it. Practitioners of AI can also gain valuable insights from the study of bias. -/- In my review of the book, I provide a critical summary of Kelly's main arguments while acknowledging its fruitfulness in understanding bias. Identification and mapping of natural vegetation are major issues for biodiversity management and conservation. Remote sensing monitoring has two important sub fields viz, classification and change detection. Change detection from remotely sensed images is a process that utilizes the images acquired over the same geographical area at different times to identify the changes that may have occurred between the considered acquisition dates. Remotely sensed data with very high spatial resolution are currently used to study vegetation, but most satellite sensors are (...) limited to four spectral bands, which is insufficient to identify some natural vegetation formations. To address this issue, this work intends to use multispectral and high spatial resolution data (Sentinel-2) to do the task of natural vegetation analysis using a popular CNN architecture. This proposed project concept is completely based on Deep Learning architecture using Remote Sensing technology for vegetation of lands in Hassan city of Karnataka India. The results are discussed within the scope of recent studies involving machine learning and Sentinel-2 data and key knowledge gaps identified. Modeling social interactions based on individual behavior has always been an area of interest, but prior literature generally presumes rational behavior. Thus, such models may miss out on capturing the effects of biases humans are susceptible to. This work presents a method to model egocentric bias, the real-life tendency to emphasize one's own opinion heavily when presented with multiple opinions. We use a symmetric distribution, centered at an agent's own opinion, as opposed to the Bounded Confidence (BC) model used in (...) prior work. We consider a game of iterated interactions where an agent cooperates based on its opinion about an opponent. Our model also includes the concept of domain-based self-doubt, which varies as the interaction succeeds or not. An increase in doubt makes an agent reduce its egocentricity in subsequent interactions, thus enabling the agent to learn reactively. The agent system is modeled with factions not having a single leader, to overcome some of the issues associated with leader-follower factions. We find that agents belonging to factions perform better than individual agents. We observe that an intermediate level of egocentricity helps the agent perform at its best, which concurs with conventional wisdom that neither overconfidence nor low self-esteem brings benefits. Smart Crop Advisor is an online decision support system that adopts Gradient Boosting algorithm to improve the accuracy of agricultural decisions, and gives low-level farmers a personal crop selection advice. Smart Crop Advisor is Designed (...) using Python, HTML and CSS. Python is used for backend development and machine learning model implementation. The user interface is designed using HTML and CSS, allowing for anyone to just add their conditions easily. This application provides insights based on data by utilizing a large agricultural database. The farmers have to enter the specifications based on their soil test report like PH value, climatic conditions such as humidity, temperature. The system proposes best crops suited for particular region and situations. SCA improves crop yields and minimizes chemical inputs, reduces resource loss by selecting the right crops for a specific region and climate, farmers can improve crop yields and reduce waste. Smart Traffic Analysis, Monitoring, and Density Estimation System Using YOLOv8 and DeepSORT, aims to provide an efficient and real-time solution for vehicle detection, tracking, and speed estimation in traffic surveillance. The system leverages YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once version 8) for high-precision object detection and integrates DeepSORT (Simple Online and Realtime Tracker with a Deep Association Metric) for multi-object tracking, ensuring accurate identification and movement tracking of vehicles across video frames. The YOLOv8 model is trained on large-scale datasets for object (...) detection and efficiently identifies vehicles in real-time. The detected bounding boxes, confidence scores, and class labels are then passed to the DeepSORT tracking algorithm, which assigns a unique ID to each detected object and maintains its trajectory across frames. DeepSORT employs an advanced Kalman filter for motion prediction and a deep appearance descriptor to ensure robust re-identification even in complex traffic conditions. Additionally, the system integrates speed estimation by tracking the movement of each vehicle across frames, calculating the pixel displacement over time, and converting it into an approximate speed (km/h). This enables real-time monitoring of traffic flow and assists in identifying potential rule violations, such as over speeding. The system processes video streams efficiently using OpenCV, NumPy, and PyTorch, making it suitable for both offline video analysis and live surveillance feeds. The output video includes annotated bounding boxes, unique tracking IDs, and estimated vehicle speeds. This solution is highly scalable and can be deployed for traffic density estimation, congestion monitoring, and automated traffic law enforcement. By combining deep learning-based detection with robust tracking and speed estimation, this project offers a faultless, real-time, and automated approach to traffic analysis, helping urban planners and law enforcement agencies manage road safety effectively.
