  1. Procrastination and the extended will.Joseph Heath & Joel Anderson - 2010 - In Chrisoula Andreou & Mark D. White (eds.), The Thief of Time: Philosophical Essays on Procrastination. New York, US: Oxford University Press. pp. 233--253.
What experimental game theorists may have demonstrated is not that people are systematically irrational but that human rationality is heavily scaffolded. Remove the scaffolding, and we do not do very well. People are able to get on because they “offload” an enormous amount of practical reasoning onto their environment. As a result, when they are put in novel or unfamiliar environments, they perform very poorly, even on apparently simple tasks. -/- This observation is supported by recent empirically informed shifts in (...)

  • Regimes of Autonomy.Joel Anderson - 2014 - Ethical Theory and Moral Practice 17 (3):355-368.
Like being able to drive a car, being autonomous is a socially attributed, claimed, and contested status. Normative debates about criteria for autonomy (and what autonomy entitles one to) are best understood, not as debates about what autonomy, at core, really is, but rather as debates about the relative merits of various possible packages of thresholds, entitlements, regulations, values, and institutions. Within different “regimes” of autonomy, different criteria for (degrees of) autonomy become authoritative. Neoliberal, solidaristic, and perfectionist regimes entail conflicting (...)

  • Autonomy of Individuals Living with Obesity.Şenol Yıldız & Nurdan Kırımlıoğlu - 2021 - Türkiye Biyoetik Dergisi 8 (2):100-113.
Obesity has tripled in the last 50 years, affecting more than 650 million people. Radical treatment options for obesity, which has become a global pandemic, are limited. Today, the focus of health research, including obesity, is autonomy. In our study, instead of adopting an absolute definition of autonomy, it was aimed to determine how autonomy in obesity is affected and interpreted by various factors by taking into account multiple definitions of autonomy. Responsibility for the prevention of obesity is placed either (...)

  • ¿Vulnerabilidad personal o contextual?
