  1. Workerism’s Inimical Incursions: On Mario Tronti’s Weberianism.Sara R. Farris - 2011 - Historical Materialism 19 (3):29-62.
This article considers the engagement of Mario Tronti - one of the leading figures of classical Italian workerism [operaismo] - with the thought of Max Weber. Weber constituted one of Tronti’s most important cattivi maestri. By analysing Weber’s influence upon Tronti’s development, this article aims to show the ways in which this encounter affected his Marxism and political theory in general. In particular, during the period of the debate in Italian Marxism about the thesis of the autonomy of the political, (...)

  • Manfredo Tafuri, Fredric Jameson and the Contestations of Political Memory.Gail Day - 2012 - Historical Materialism 20 (1):31-77.
The Italian architectural historian Manfredo Tafuri developed a distinctive Marxist approach of critical analysis, which has prompted extensive responses. The reception of his work in the United States in the 1970s and 80s – the intervention of Fredric Jameson, especially – forms an important moment of historiographical mutation, in which the status of Tafuri’s politics holds an intriguing place: it was eviscerated in the very act of its affirmation. At stake is not simply the problems attending the transatlantic migration of (...)

  • A Journey through Tafuri’s Unsolvable Contradictions.Luisa Lorenza Corna - 2018 - Historical Materialism 26 (3):210-230.
Marco Biraghi’s Project of Crisis provides a broad introduction to the thought and working-methods of historian Manfredo Tafuri. It also explores how this framework informed his studies of contemporary architecture. This review foregrounds the most distinctive aspects of Biraghi’s analysis, focusing upon its attention to the diversity of Tafuri’s philosophical sources. However, it argues that the author’s decision to focus upon the letter of Tafuri’s texts pushes questions of cultural and political context into the background. On occasion, this obscures the (...)

  • Escisiones.

  • Spinoza: ontology and the political.William McGillivray McMurtrie - unknown
Historically, Spinoza has tended to be considered as something of an anomaly within European modernity, a fascinating exception within the Western philosophical canon but one who has largely remained on the margins. More recently, however, there has been a significant revival of interest in Spinoza, a ‘turn’ to Spinoza which has had major impact on leftist philosophical- political thought. This thesis traces some of the history of this turn, and seeks to determine the nature of this impact. It ranges critically (...)
