English Tenses: Why Slavic Natives Don’t Get Them and What English Natives Don’t Get in What Slavic Natives Don’t Get

Abstract

60% of meanings conveyed by English grammar tenses are not recognized automatically by the Russian language. Russian translations tend to be some 30% longer than their English originals. Is there any way for us to map and systematise those discrepancies? Here is an attempt of modelling, or reconstructing the cognitive system of English natives imprinted in the English Tense System, as seen by a Slavic native speaker.
