(Third edition with additions) -/- This is a collection of short stories centering around the protagonist character, Kingfisher, originally written in Vietnamese by myself. -/- The book aims to introduce international readers to snippets of Vietnamese culture through the ordinary yet humorous life of the bird village. -/- The first 15 of these short stories were published in the Khoảng Lặng (Quiet Moment) column of the Vietnamese magazine Kinh Tế và Dự Báo (Economy and Forecast Review) from 2017 (...) to 2019. -/- However, this is the first time that the collection of all the Kingfisher stories has been published in its entirety, covering stories that have not been published elsewhere, including new stories written in 2023. -/- The stories of Kingfisher are full of humor and satire while also deep in social commentary. The book by interdisciplinary researcher in economics and social sciences Vuong Quan Hoang includes 25 stories, released in the form of an e-book and print book in English on Amazon. The Kingfisher Story Collection by author Vuong Quan Hoang expresses his observations and reflections on cultural, social, and human aspects through his perspective and experiences. Kingfisher, the main character of the whole story, to the bustling life in the bird village. It can be said that (...) the book provides young readers with lessons on how to be human through the fun, lively, and colorful nature of birds. For older people with some or more experience, the book can provide moments of entertainment and valuable opportunities for reflection. I introduce an underdiscussed type of moral luck, which I call interpersonal moral luck. Interpersonal moral luck characteristically occurs when the actions of other moral agents, qua morally evaluable actions, affect an agent’s moral status in a way that is outside of that agent’s capacity to control. I suggest that interpersonal moral luck is common in collective contexts involving shared responsibility and has interesting distinctive features. I also suggest that many philosophers are already committed to its existence. I then argue (...) that agents who are susceptible to interpersonal moral luck are usually for this reason defeasibly entitled to make demands of those agents who are the source of that luck. This is the phenomenon of normative entanglement. I conclude by discussing some of the important ways in which normative entanglement can shape the norms that govern the actions of agents in collective contexts as well as explain some of our intuitions about what participants in these contexts owe one another. Recently, we have been trying to find out how to innovate our research method. For an analytical approach like BMF, it is even more difficult as BMF is the product of a many-year process of deliberate designing and optimizing. Fortunately, such innovation has appeared through the fictional details of The Kingfisher Story Collection, which gave birth to a subsequent series of innovations in working cultures, philosophies, principles, theories, methodology, and practices of the AISDL team. However, one important (...) question remained: What is the true meaning of Kingfisher? Why do we have so deep a connection to it? At first, we thought the Collection’s embedded humor and freedom of thought were the reasons. A few days ago, I received the acceptance decision for the paper titled “Kingfisher: Contemplating the connection between nature and humans through science, art, literature, and lived experiences”. I consider this paper my best-written article of 2023, so my feeling of happiness was immeasurable when I knew it got accepted. Coincidentally, a book by my co-author, Prof. Vuong, which is one of our inspirations to write this paper, also became Amazon Japan’s best seller in the category of humanist philosophy. (...) Kingfisher was upset. He cared little for the village but cared a lot for the wellbeing of himself.

The book is a collection of story pieces about the journey of the Kingfisher, who is powerful but also lonely. I have been so impressed by the way that the main character, Kingfisher, is charted throughout the whole book. His interactions with other characters in each story carry valuable lessons in real, human life.

The narrative’s conception came from a real-world story intended for Meandering Sobriety. Then, it was rewritten in Vietnamese in mid-September 2023, with its original title being “Love’s Dream of Kingfisher and the Joy of Awakening”. This English version will be included in the next edition (3th) of The Kingfisher Story Collection.

Nếu như năm 2022, Truyện ngụ ngôn Bói Cá bản tiếng Anh hoàn tất và đến được quầy hàng, thì năm 2023, bài viết có nguồn gốc suy nghĩ từ ngụ ngôn, kèm theo chương trình nghiên cứu về môi trường, biến đổi khí hậu với bóng dáng Bói Cá hiện diện rõ nét, cũng ra đời.

Trên phương diện nghiên cứu môi trường sống và đa dạng sinh học, Chim Bói cá nhỏ bé nhưng rất đặc trưng cho sông hồ này lại có thể cung cấp một lượng thông tin khoa học về biến đổi môi trường.

This short paragraph reminds us, humans, that our own activities, past and present, have triggered many of the grave environmental problems we have been facing.

Cô Cánh Mơ này có gì mà khiến ngài Bói Cá uy nghi, nghiêm nghị, vốn hay ra vẻ suy tư lung lắm, mê đắm tới tương tư như gàn dở thế?

“As time passes, news about the now hotter Earth buzzes through the bird village. […] As Kingfisher casts his gaze upon the events that have unfolded, he can’t help but feel a sense of unease creeping up within him. Bói cá là hình ảnh loài chim quen thuộc ở nông thôn Việt Nam. Ngay ở ngoại ô Hà Nội, thỉnh thoảng vẫn có thể bắt gặp một chú bói cá đậu rất yên tĩnh trên cành cây, chờ phút xuất thần trổ tài, tinh nghề tới mức thượng thừa, được tôn vinh bằng tên hiệu kiêu hãnh “bói”, họ Bói tên Cá!

Từ hồi đại phu Chèo Bẻo cuối xóm già ngẫn, nhớ nhớ quên quên, mất khả năng khám chữa bệnh, cơ bản tình hình sức khỏe xóm chim xuống dốc. Nhiều chuyện kỳ quái xảy ra chỉ vì cái sự đi xuống của sức khỏe vật lý lẫn tinh thần của chúng chim trong xóm.

Cuốn sách ngụ ngôn Bói Cá hài hước đột nhiên được thấy nằm ở vị trí Bestseller #1 trên hệ thống Amazon Japan, ngày đầu tháng 12-2023.

Nhân đọc bài bình sách mặc dù rất gọn, nhưng không hề kém lý thú trên tờ Kinh tế và Dự báo [1], vài suy nghĩ liên hệ chợt đến. Đoạn trích của bài bình sau là ví dụ: “Đối với trẻ em, chú chim Bói Cá trên cho thấy hậu quả không tốt của những người hay trì hoãn làm việc. Đối với người trưởng thành, câu chuyện phê phán những người ôm lấy lý thuyết mà không chịu hành (...) động, thiếu thực tiễn trong cuộc sống”. Quả nhiên những chuyện tương tự như trên ngẫm ra thấy rất phổ biến. Ngay trong công việc, chúng tôi cũng vẫn cứ phải nhắc nhau, vì có biết thì vẫn cứ thỉnh thoảng xảy ra. (shrink)

Chờ mãi, rồi bài viết rất nhiều suy ngẫm về loài chim bói cá cũng chuyển từ trạng thái chờ sang thực sự xuất bản.

Dạo gần đây mưa nhiều, cây cối tốt tươi, cá tôm đầy ao. Chim ở các nơi tấp nập kéo đến sinh sống.

Trong lab nghiên cứu thường gọi cuốn này cho gọn là BC, chữ viết tắt của “Bói Cá”.

Để có được bức ảnh hoàn mỹ như trên, anh Alan đã phải chụp tới 720 ngàn ảnh. Số ảnh này lấy đi của anh ấy 4200 giờ lao động, dàn trải qua 6 năm trời.

Thông qua các câu chuyện, tác giả đã khéo léo mượn hình ảnh về chú chim Bói Cá đầy khôi hài và châm biếm để thể hiện các triết lý nhân sinh quan trong cuộc sống.

Trong Xóm Chim, bọn nó xì xào ghê lắm. Chúng nó tị nạnh, cả xóm giờ mới có một lão Bói Cá này xuất ngoại.

Thời gian trôi qua, Trái Đất nghe tin nóng lên ghê lắm. Bọn bói cá ở ngoài đê Sông Hồng thỉnh thoảng báo tin nước cạn, cá gầy. Bây giờ ngẫm lại Bói Cá thấy nguy hiểm thật. Ngài tăng cường tìm hiểu, mà phải tin tức khoa học nghiêm chỉnh nhé. Một đội tinh nhuệ, thạo tin, gồm Cò, Chim Sâu, Chim Sẻ, Chào Mào, v.v.., được lập ra để báo cáo tình hình nguy cấp.
