  1. Immersive ideals / critical distances : study of the affinity between artistic ideologies in virtual Reality and previous immersive idioms.Joseph Nechvatal (ed.) - 2010 - Berlin: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing AG & Co KG.
My research into Virtual Reality technology and its central property of immersion has indicated that immersion in Virtual Reality (VR) electronic systems is a significant key to the understanding of contemporary culture as well as considerable aspects of previous culture as detected in the histories of philosophy and the visual arts. The fundamental change in aesthetic perception engendered by immersion, a perception which is connected to the ideal of total-immersion in virtual space, identifies certain shifts in ontology which are relevant (...)

  • Science and the problem of psi.Kenneth L. Shewmaker & Carlton W. Berenda - 1962 - Philosophy of Science 29 (2):195-203.
Some issues raised by parapsychological phenomena (psi) are examined in the light of their implications for a philosophy of science. It is shown that the kinds of problems psi poses for science vary with the way one conceives of science as well as one's conception of psi. It is suggested that psi may be a product of the fact that all of our scientific concepts are abstractions and therefore oversimplifications. This raises the possibility that our best conceptual technique for dealing (...)

  • Kierkegaard’s Regulative Sacrifice: A Post-Kantian Reading of Fear and Trembling.Paolo Diego Bubbio - 2012 - International Journal of Philosophical Studies 20 (5):691-723.
The present paper suggests to consider Kierkegaard’s use of Abraham’s story in Fear and Trembling in regulative terms, that is, to consider it as a model – not for our moral behaviour but rather for our religious behaviour. To do so, I first rely on recent literature to argue that Kierkegaard should be regarded as a distinctively post-Kantian philosopher: namely, a philosopher who goes beyond Kant in a way that is nevertheless true to the spirit of Kant’s original critical philosophy. (...)

  • City as a character of thriller.Олена Колесник - 2019 - Докса 2.
The city as an artificial environment was mentioned and sometimes described throughout the whole history of literature. One of the first texts in which we see the slums of a metropolis as a location both commonplace and exotic, and completely necessary for the narrative as a whole, is Petronius’s “Satiricon”. Some of its characteristics were later reproduced in the Picaresque and still later, in some of the budding genres of the XIX ct. literature. For instance, that century was formative for (...)
