  1. Gadamer, Barth, and Transcendence in Biblical Interpretation.Darren Sarisky - 2022 - European Journal for Philosophy of Religion 13 (4).
The essay reflects on how Hans-Georg Gadamer and Karl Barth view interpretation of the Christian Bible. It proceeds in three main sections. The first contends that Gadamer secularizes Christian theology, and that this has drawbacks for the sort of reading his hermeneutic can give to Christian Scripture. The second part turns to Barth, arguing that the whole structure of his approach to the Bible factors in theological commitment, with benefits for the readings he can deliver. The final part makes a (...)

  • Sharing Words of Silence: Panikkar after Gadamer.Bret W. Davis - 2015 - Comparative and Continental Philosophy 7 (1):52-68.
This article elucidates and interpretively develops Raimon Panikkar's hermeneutics of intertraditional dialogue by way of setting it into sympathetic and critical dialogue with the predominantly intratraditional hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer. It argues that Panikkar's thought enables us not only to appreciate, but also to question the limits of the fundamental roles played by language and tradition in Gadamer's hermeneutics. Panikkar's own hermeneutical reflections arise directly out of intertraditional as well as interlinguistic experience; and they ultimately direct us toward the profoundest (...)

  • Hans-Georg Gadamer and the philosophy of religion.David Vessey - 2010 - Philosophy Compass 5 (8):645-655.
Gadamer sought to distinguish his philosophical hermeneutics from theologically driven hermeneutics. Perhaps because of that, even though he has influenced contemporary theological hermeneutics, he has very little to say about theology or religion. What he does say about religion is drawn from a reductive interpretation of religion as myths meant that posit something transcendent to help us cope with our awareness of our death. Here I explain why he thought Christianity was such a paradoxical religion, how his views might be (...)

  • The idea of incarnation revisited by Jung, Gadamer and Henry.Paweł Sznajder - 2019 - Argument: Biannual Philosophical Journal 9 (2):289-302.
The idea of incarnation is one of the Christian theological concepts that has exerted the strongest influence on philosophical thought in Europe and which was repeatedly referred to in the twentieth century. The paper presents three reinterpretations of this biblical category. Carl Gustav Jung interprets incarnation in the spirit of Gnosticism, as a process of the psychological individuation of God and man; Hans‑Georg Gadamer employs the idea of the inner Word, Verbum interius, to analyse the dogmas of incarnation and the (...)

  • The ineffectiveness of hermeneutics. Another Augustine’s legacy in Gadamer.Alberto Romele - 2014 - International Journal of Philosophy and Theology 75 (5):422-439.
This article builds on Gadamer’s rehabilitation of the Augustinian concept of inner word. Unlike most interpretations, the thesis is that the Augustinian inner word does not show the potentialities, but rather the ineffectiveness of ontological hermeneutics. In the first section, it is argued that for the later Augustine, the verbum in corde is the consequence of a Word- and Truth- event. In the second section, the author suggests that Gadamer has properly understood the verbum in corde as a matter of (...)

Ontologinis kalbos matmuo H. G. Gadamerio hermeneutikoje Santrauka.
