  1. Exploring an EAP writing teacher's adaptive expertise and adaptive teaching practices from a CDST perspective.Xiaoting Xiang, Pengyun Chang & Baohua Yu - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Teachers' adaptive expertise has received increasing attention in the current English as foreign language teaching field, however, it has seldom been examined with adaptive practices by teachers in on-going classes among existing literature. Adopting a mixed-method design with data triangulation, this study was conducted to explore the complexity of teachers' adaptive expertise and adaptive teaching practices that an EAP writing teacher demonstrated in academic writing courses, from a Complex Dynamic Systems Theory perspective. Semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and questionnaires were arranged (...)

  • Neuronal symphonies: Musical improvisation and the centrencephalic space of functional integration.Mauro Maldonato, Alberto Oliverio & Anna Esposito - 2017 - World Futures 73 (8):491-510.
Musical improvisation is a sophisticated activity in which a performer realizes, real-time, melodic, and rhythmic sequences in harmony with those from other musicians. The study of musical improvisation helps one to understand not only the cognition of creativity, but also the complex neuronal basis of executive functions, the relation between conscious and unconscious action, and even more. So far, the prevailing models, founded on the brain imaging method, have focused on the connection between the cortical areas and their cognitive processes. (...)

  • Teacher Agency Following the Ecological Model: How It is Achieved and How It Could Be Strengthened by Different Types of Reflection.Äli Leijen, Margus Pedaste & Liina Lepp - 2020 - British Journal of Educational Studies 68 (3):295-310.
This article draws on the ecological model of teacher agency and elaborates on how teacher agency is achieved, its components and how it could be strengthened. This model highlights professional competence, structural and cultural context, and professional purpose as the main elements of achieving agency. In this paper, we specify some elements of the ecological model and elaborate on how three types of reflection could be used to strengthen conditions for achieving teacher agency. These include, first, procedures aimed at articulating (...)

  • Extensive knowledge integration strategies in pre-service teachers: the role of perceived instrumentality, motivation, and self-regulation.Jumi Lee & Jeannine E. Turner - 2017 - Educational Studies 44 (5):505-520.
This study investigated contributions of pre-service teachers’ endogenous and exogenous instrumentalities, their intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, and their use of self-regulation strategies to explain the extent to which they used strategies to purposefully integrate their knowledge across courses. With a total of 254 pre-service teachers’ survey-responses, results of a hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that their endogenous instrumentality of their current coursework, their use of metacognitive strategies and their use of deeper cognitive learning strategies contributed to explaining their use of (...)

  • The Associations of Teacher Professional Characteristics, School Environmental Factors, and State Testing Policy on Social Studies Educators’ Instructional Authority.Hyeri Hong & Gregory E. Hamot - 2015 - Journal of Social Studies Research 39 (4):225-241.
Knowledge of pedagogy and social studies content influences a teacher's decision making and helps teachers conduct sound instructional practices despite the influence of high-stakes testing policies. Using national data from the Survey of the Status of Social Studies (S4), this study examined the associations of teachers’ professional characteristics, school environmental factors, and state testing policy on self-reported levels of authority that secondary level social studies teachers (grades 6–12) hold over key classroom tasks. Through hierarchical multiple regression analysis, key findings from (...)

  • TPACKEA Model for Teaching and Students’ Learning.Moses Kumi Asamoah - 2019 - Journal of Academic Ethics 17 (4):401-421.
The framework, Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, Ethics and Accomplishment (TPACKEA) provides an extension to a modified TPACK framework by adding ‘Ethics’ and ‘Accomplishment’. The reason is that further theoretical formulations and deployments need to be carried out on Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) if TPACK research is to harmonize and constructively strengthen the field of blended/full online learning in higher education. It is a qualitative study that employed in-depth interviews for data collection. The data collection procedure of this study employed (...)
