  1. Biologian ja epistemologian vastavuoroisuus Bergsonin filosofiassa.Lauri Myllymaa - 2021 - Tiede and Edistys 2021 (3):162–176.
Elämä on nähty merkittävänä aiheena Bergsonin filosofiassa. Analysoimalla (...)

  • Two Sources of Knowledge: Origin and Generation of Knowledge in Maine de Biran and Henri Bergson.Lauri Myllymaa - 2021 - Dissertation, University of Jyväskylä
It is important for the theory of knowledge to understand the factors involved in the generation of the capacities of knowledge. In the history of modern philosophy, knowledge is generally held to originate in either one or two sources, and the debates about these sources between philosophers have concerned their existence, or legitimacy. Furthermore, some philosophers have advocated scepticism about the human capacity to understand the origins of knowledge altogether. However, the developmental aspects of knowledge have received relatively little attention (...)

Philippe Mongin - 2018 - Revue Philosophique De Louvain 116 (2):151–186.
Abstract: Economists are accustomed to distinguishing between a positive and a normative component of their work, a distinction that is peculiar to their field, having no exact counterpart in the other social sciences. The distinction has substantially changed over time, and the different ways of understanding it today are reflective of its history. Our objective is to trace the origins and initial forms of the distinction, from the English classical political economy of the first half of the 19th century to (...)

  • Science, Religion, and “The Will to Believe".Alexander Klein - 2015 - Hopos: The Journal of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science 5 (1):72-117.
Do the same epistemic standards govern scientific and religious belief? Or should science and religion operate in completely independent epistemic spheres? Commentators have recently been divided on William James’s answer to this question. One side depicts “The Will to Believe” as offering a separate-spheres defense of religious belief in the manner of Galileo. The other contends that “The Will to Believe” seeks to loosen the usual epistemic standards so that religious and scientific beliefs can both be justified by a unitary (...)

  • Missing Links: Hume, Smith, Kant and Economic Methodology.Stuart Holland & Teresa Carla Oliveira - 2013 - Economic Thought 2 (2):46.
This paper traces missing links in the history of economic thought. In outlining Hume's concept of 'the reflexive mind' it shows that this opened frontiers between philosophy and psychology which Bertrand Russell denied and which logical positivism in philosophy and positive economics displaced. It relates this to Hume's influence not only on Smith, but also on Schopenhauer and the later Wittgenstein, with parallels in Gestalt psychology and recent findings from neural research and cognitive psychology. It critiques Kant's reaction to Hume's (...)

  • “Instruction Publique” in the French Eighteenth-Century Discourse of Modernisation.Ursula Hofer - 1999 - Studies in Philosophy and Education 18 (1):15-24.
Towards the end of eighteenth century in France, the newly acquired rights of people as citizens needed assuring. This article traces the principles through which Condorcet tried to realise this on an institutional level. Condorcet did not view the Enlightenment ideas of progress as primarily referring to the state. Rather, he focused on the rights of individuals, particularly on their right to develop their own potential. He bound this perception with the unconditional demand for recognition of the rights of all (...)

  • A novel Holistic Risk Assessment Concept: The Epistemological Positioning and the Methodology.Carrodano Tarantino Cinzia - unknown
Risk is an intrinsic part of our lives. In the future, the development and growth of the Internet of things allows getting a huge amount of data. Considering this evolution, our research focuses on developing a novel concept, namely Holistic Risk Assessment (HRA), that takes into consideration elements outside the direct influence of the individual to provide a highly personalized risk assessment. The HRA implies developing a methodology and a model. This paper is related to the epistemological positioning of this (...)

  • Syy-seuraussuhteen ajallinen epäsymmetria.Matias Slavov - 2020 - Ajatus 77 (1):11-38.
Artikkelissa puolustetaan syy-seuraussuhteen ajallista yksisuuntaisuutta. Positiivinen argumentti perustuu ajanluontoisten tapahtumien ennen–jälkeen-suhteen pysyvyyteen.
