This study aims to describe representation of existentialism philosophy on the main characters in Island People novel by Giyan.Thesis of Masters in Indonesian Language and Literature Education.Postgraduate Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. This study uses descriptivequalitative method based on the analysis of text in Island People novel by Giyan. Data (...) was collected through library technique with means of systematic compilation that aided by technique of hermeneutic reading. The results of the study are follows. First, the representation of the main character existence in an existentialism perspective: The way of existence in the world; Existence as possession of private; Existence as a process; Death as the end of existence. Second, the freedom of the main character in an existentialis: freedom as a necessity of responsible choice; freedom as a conflict of opposition consciousness. (shrink)
