  1. (1 other version)Here Is the Rose, Dance Here! A Riposte to the Debate on the Argentinean Crisis.Ana Cecilia Dinerstein - 2008 - Historical Materialism 16 (1):101-114.
This article aims to contribute to the debate on the short- to medium-term political implications of the 2001 Argentine crisis. The bulk of the argument deals with the criticism of the notion of 'reinvention of politics'. The article presents the theoretical premises and empirical data which sustain this proposal. It is argued that in order to appreciate the political innovation brought about by the events of December 2001, it is important first to consider the political, social and economic forms of (...)

  • Negative dialectics and the critique of economic objectivity.Werner Bonefeld - 2016 - History of the Human Sciences 29 (2):60-76.
This article explores Adorno’s negative dialectics as a critical social theory of economic objectivity. It rejects the conventional view that Adorno does not offer a critique of the economic forms of capitalist society. The article holds that negative dialectics is a dialectics of the social world in the form of the economic object, one that is governed by the movement of economic quantities, that is, real economic abstractions. Negative dialectics refuses to accept the constituted economic categories as categories of economic (...)

  • (1 other version)From 'activity' to 'labour': commodification, labourpower and contradiction in Engeström's activity theory.Paul Warmington - 2008 - Outlines. Critical Practice Studies 10 (2):4-19.
Engeström’s (1987, 1999) innovations in cultural-historical activity theory emphasise the role of contradictions in analysing and transforming learning in practice. This paper considers some of the problems and possibilities contained in his analytical understanding of contradictions, in relation to activity and to what he terms ‘expansive learning’ (Engeström, 2001, 2004, 2007). In doing so, it builds upon Engeström’s stated concern with theorising activities ‘in capitalism’. Its goal is to problematise the underlying practical definition of contradictions and the claims made for (...)
