  1. Comments on friesen’s 95 theses on Herman Dooyeweerd.Henk G. Geertsema - 2009 - Philosophia Reformata 74 (2):115-128.
It is no easy task to respond to the 95 theses on Herman Dooyeweerd by J. Glenn Friesen. The theses are not complete in rendering Dooyeweerd’s thought. For example, his analyses of the history of philosophy and his legal philosophy are hardly touched upon. Yet the theses cover a wide range of topics that are central to Dooyeweerd’s philosophy. Therefore, to give a wellargued assessment of all of them would require more than one issue of this journal. Fortunately the editors (...)

  • Is Dooyeweerd a panentheist? — Comments on friesen’s ‘95 theses on Herman Dooyeweerd’.Gerrit Glas - 2009 - Philosophia Reformata 74 (2):129.
What is the purpose of Friesen’s 95 theses and what is the audience he has in mind? The title refers to a major church historical event and suggests that — like in 1517 — we are dealing with a concise statement of a new and radical doctrine that is unfolded in opposition to an established canon. But who is the opponent in this case? What is the established canon that is rejected? And what is new or radical in the summary? (...)

  • Intellectual influences upon the reformational philosophy of Dooyeweerd.Daniël Fm Strauss - 2004 - Philosophia Reformata 69 (1):151-181.
On the basis of an initial reference to a number of critical appraisals of H. Dooyeweerd’s philosophy, this article proceeds by provisionally focusing on the image of Franz Xavier Von Baader1 — who was intellectually active during the first part of the nineteenth century — in secondary literature . The main concern, however, is to enter into a more detailed evaluation of the claim made by J.G. Friesen,2 namely that all the basic systematic insights and distinctions found in the philosophy (...)

  • Time and History in the Philosophy of the Cosmonomic Idea.M. D. Stafleu - 2008 - Philosophia Reformata 73 (2):154-169.
This article identifies two trends in Dooyeweerd’s conception of ‘cosmic time’, and elaborates their consequences for the philosophy of history. The first trend, connecting time to modal diversity and the order of the modal aspects, prevails in Dooyeweerd’s analysis. The application of the second trend, emphasizing that in each relation frame the temporal order governs subject-subject relations and subjectobject relations, sheds a new light on the interpretation of history conceived of as development of the culture and civilization of mankind. The (...)
