  1. A combinatorial result related to the consistency of New Foundations.Athanassios Tzouvaras - 2011 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 162 (5):373-383.
We prove a combinatorial result for models of the 4-fragment of the Simple Theory of Types , TST4. The result says that if is a standard transitive and rich model of TST4, then satisfies the 0,0,n-property, for all n≥2. This property has arisen in the context of the consistency problem of the theory New Foundations . The result is a weak form of the combinatorial condition that was shown in Tzouvaras [5] to be equivalent to the consistency of NF. Such (...)

  • The Universe among Other Things.Achille C. Varzi - 2006 - Ratio 19 (1):107–120.
Peter Simons has argued that the expression ‘the universe’ is not a genuine singular term: it can name neither a single, completely encompassing individual, nor a collection of individuals. (It is, rather, a semantically plural term standing equally for every existing object.) I offer reasons for resisting Simons’s arguments on both scores.

  • On the most open question in the history of mathematics: A discussion of Maddy.Adrian Riskin - 1994 - Philosophia Mathematica 2 (2):109-121.
In this paper, I argue against Penelope Maddy's set-theoretic realism by arguing (1) that it is perfectly consistent with mathematical Platonism to deny that there is a fact of the matter concerning statements which are independent of the axioms of set theory, and that (2) denying this accords further that many contemporary Platonists assert that there is a fact of the matter because they are closet foundationalists, and that their brand of foundationalism is in radical conflict with actual mathematical practice.
