  1. Generalised Quantum Theory—Basic Idea and General Intuition: A Background Story and Overview. [REVIEW]Harald Walach & Nikolaus von Stillfried - 2011 - Axiomathes 21 (2):185-209.
Science is always presupposing some basic concepts that are held to be useful. These absolute presuppositions (Collingwood) are rarely debated and form the framework for what has been termed paradigm by Kuhn. Our currently accepted scientific model is predicated on a set of presuppositions that have difficulty accommodating holistic structures and relationships and are not geared towards incorporating non-local correlations. Since the theoretical models we hold also determine what we perceive and take as scientifically viable, it is important to look (...)

  • Spirituality: The Legacy of Parapsychology.Stefan Schmidt, Harald Walach, Ilo Hinterberger, Nikolaus von Stillfried & Niko Kohls - 2009 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 31 (3):277-308.
Spirituality is a topic of recent interest. Mindfulness, for example, a concept derived from the Buddhist tradition, has captivated the imagination of clinicians who package it in convenient intervention programs for patients. Spirituality and religion have been researched with reference to potential health benefits. Spirituality can be conceptualised as the alignment of the individual with the whole, experientially, motivationally and in action. For spirituality to unfold its true potential it is necessary to align this new movement with the mainstream of (...)

  • Paranormal Experience Profiles and Their Association With Variations in Executive Functions: A Latent Profile Analysis.Kenneth Graham Drinkwater, Neil Dagnall, Andrew Denovan, Andrew Parker & Álex Escolà-Gascón - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
This study investigated relationships between inter-class variations in paranormal experience and executive functions. A sample of 516 adults completed self-report measures assessing personal encounter-based paranormal occurrences, executive functions together with Emotion Regulation and Belief in the Paranormal. Paranormal belief served as a measure of convergent validity for experience-based phenomena. Latent profile analysis combined experience-based indices into four classes based on sample subpopulation scores. Multivariate analysis of variance then examined interclass differences. Results revealed that breadth of paranormal experience was associated with (...)

  • Parapsychological Phenomena Examples of Generalized Nonlocal Correlations – A Theoretical Framework.Harald Walach - 2014 - Journal of Scientific Exploration 28 (4).
Scientific facts are constituted as consensus about observable phenomena against the background of an accepted, or at least plausible, theory. Empirical data without a theoretical framework are at best curiosities and anomalies, at worst they are neglected. The problem of parapsychological research since its inception with the foundation of the Society of Psychical Research in 1882 was that no sound theoretical basis existed. On the contrary, the proponents of the SPR often indulged in a theoretical model that ran contrary to (...)

  • What's in a name for memory errors? Implications and ethical issues arising from the use of the term "false memory" for errors in memory for details.Anne P. DePrince, Carolyn B. Allard, Hannah Oh & Jennifer J. Freyd - 2004 - Ethics and Behavior 14 (3):201 – 233.
The term "false memories" has been used to refer to suggestibility experiments in which whole events are apparently confabulated and in media accounts of contested memories of childhood abuse. Since 1992 psychologists have increasingly used the term "false memory" when discussing memory errors for details, such as specific words within word lists. Use of the term to refer to errors in details is a shift in language away from other terms used historically (e.g., "memory intrusions"). We empirically examine this shift (...)
