RESUMEN Se analiza la reconstrucción del pensamiento romántico de Karl Heinz Bohrer y de su concepción estética de la subjetividad. Se expone el modo en que esta aparece en la reflexión estética de Friedrich Schlegel y se revisan las críticas de Bohrer a la tendencia de Schlegel a reinstaurar una imagen mítica de las relaciones subjetivas. Se examina la forma en que la segunda generación romántica supera este peligro y, por último, se indaga hasta qué punto la concepción de la (...) subjetividad estética que propone Bohrer resulta adecuada para comprender la producción artística contemporánea, así como algunos de los límites que presenta su lectura del pensamiento de Schlegel. ABSTRACT The paper analyzes Karl Heinz Bohrer's reconstruction of Romantic thought and of its aesthetic conception of subjectivity. It shows how this reconstruction appears in Friedrich Schlegel's aesthetic reflections, and reviews Bohrer's critiques of Schlegel's tendency to reinstate a mythical image of subjective relations. Furthermore, the article examines the way in which the second generation of Romantics overcome this problem; inquires into the extent to which Bohrer's conception of aesthetic subjectivity might be adequate to understand contemporary artistic production; and, finally, discusses some limitations of Bohrer's reading of Schlegel's thought. Recent years have witnessed a rehabilitation of early German Romanticism in philosophy, including a renewed interest in Romantic ethics. Friedrich Schlegel (1772–1829) is acknowledged as a key figure in this movement. While significant work has been done on some aspects of his thought, his views on ethics have been surprisingly overlooked. This essay aims to redress this shortcoming in the literature by examining the core themes of Schlegel’s ethics during the early phase of his career (1793–1801). I argue that Schlegel’s (...) position stands out against both the dominant Kantianism of his era, as well as against some of fellow Romantics. I show how Schlegel anticipates contemporary philosophers such as Bernard Williams, Harry Frankfurt, John McDowell, and Stanley Cavell in both his criticisms of traditional moral theory and in his attempts to develop a positive position. “Modernity, Aesthetics and Subjectivity. A Historical-conceptual Reconstruction of the Reappropriations of Friedrich Schlegel’s Thought Within the Framework of Contemporary German Philosophy”. In this paper we analyze the interpretation of Friedrich Schlegel’s romantic thought developed by K. H. Bohrer and M. Frank. The aim is to show how, through this historical reference, the aforementioned authors reconstruct a conception of subjectivity that breaks with the modern postulate of an instituting subject and that allows to overcome the poststructuralist thesis of the death of (...) the subject. However, neither this alternative conception of the subject, nor the way in which the aesthetic dimension is characterized by Bohrer and Frank, are free of difficulties. As we will see towards the end of this paper, their anti-idealistic reading of Schlegel’s work is not only strongly unilateral, but unable to realize the specificity of contemporary artistic production.
