It is often thought that religious experiences provide support for the cumulative case for the existence of the God of classical monotheism. In this paper, I formulate an Evil-god challenge that invites classical monotheists to explain why, based on evidence from religious experience, the belief in an omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent god is significantly more reasonable than the belief in an omnipotent, omniscient, evil god. I demonstrate that religious experiences substantiate the existence of Evil-god more so than they do the existence (...) of Good-god, and, consequently, that the traditional argument from religious experience fails: it should not be included in the cumulative case for the existence of Good-god. A monomethod bias still prevails in the psychology of religion, with the developing field studying the relationship between religiosity, spirituality and health being almost completely dominated by questionnaire research. This comes as a surprise, because the experiential side of religion, spirituality, can by definition be regarded as inner and private experiences of transcendence that have frequently been described as being of utmost importance. At first glance, from this perspective, standardized questionnaire scales appear to be inappropriate for “measuring the unmeasurable”. Until (...) now, no questionnaire instrument developed for the purpose of assessing spiritual and religious experiences has been qualitatively double-checked for intermethod validity. In order to throw light on whether questionnaire instruments are appropriate for measuring domains of spiritual and transcendental experiences, we tested a newly developed questionnaire instrument, the Exceptional Experience Questionnaire , for intermethod validity by conducting post-questionnaire interviews . This revealed that the EEQ was able to grasp these experiences within reasonable limits. However, two thirds of our interview sample said that the study had changed how they viewed these experiences. These findings suggest that the reactivity of quantitative instruments in grasping spiritual and transcendental domains should be taken into account, especially when devising longitudinal designs and further research is clearly needed. As a consequence, introducing a reflective circle of results stemming from both quantitative and qualitative approaches is recommended as the most useful and appropriate research tool for studying spiritual or mystical experiences, if not all constructs. The Evil-god challenge attempts to undermine classical monotheism by contending that because belief in an omnipotent, omniscient, omni-malevolent God (the Evil-god hypothesis) is similarly reasonable to belief in an omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent God (the Good-god hypothesis), the onus is on the classical monotheist to justify their belief in the latter hypothesis over the former hypothesis. This thesis explores the Evil-god challenge by detailing the history and recent developments of the challenge; distinguishing between different types of Evil-god challenge; responding to several (...) prominent objections to the challenge; and applying the challenge to philosophical arguments for the existence of God. I also evaluate the efficacy of parallel arguments as a whole, with a view to determining the parameters of the Evil-god challenge by laying out exactly which theistic positions are irrevocably undermined by it. I conclude that the Evil-god challenge effectively damages several arguments for the existence of God and, in cases where it does not straightforwardly do so, it nevertheless reduces the Good-god theist’s belief to one or more intuitions. Background and Objectives: Protection of patient privacy consider as one of the fundamental requirements in professional morality, maintenance of individual dignity, and Patient-centered in the spiritual care system of nurses. This study aimed to explore the relationship between spiritual attitude and Protection of patient privacy in students at Khoy university of medical sciences in 2018. Methods: The present study was an analytical cross-sectional type in which 196 Khoy nursing students were selected. To collect data, two questionnaires of spiritual attitude and (...) patient privacy were applied. Data were analyzed by SPSS V22 software, independent T-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The spiritual attitude of most students was positive with 81.6% and the tendency to the protection of patient privacy was desirable with positive. Most agrees concerning privacy respectively related to protective measures and consideration of individual hygiene in the prevention of nosocomial infections, the requirement of screen application at the time of caring, and appropriate coverage of patient to prevent unnecessary exposure. There was a positive and significant relationship between the spiritual attitude and necessity of privacy protection. Conclusion: All humans have a spiritual orientation potential that with the support of reasoning and learning is amendable. Activities including respecting, privacy-protecting, and listening to patients were considered as spiritual care principles. It is necessary, nursing faculty members strengthen the spiritual attitude and observance of these principles in nursing students by using practical and role-playing teaching methods. (shrink)
