  1. A Set of Axioms for Neoclassical Economics and the Methodological Status of the Equilibrium Concept.Arnis Vilks - 1992 - Economics and Philosophy 8 (1):51-82.
It is widely agreed that the concept of general equilibrium and, in particular, general equilibrium existence proofs play a central role within the neoclassical approach to economic theory. There is much less agreement, however, on the concepts of general equilibrium and of neoclassical economic theory themselves.

  • The Logical Structure of International Trade Theory.Frieder Lempp - 2008 - Erkenntnis 69 (2):227-242.
In this paper the structuralist approach of theory reconstruction is applied to International Trade Theory. In the basic element the universal laws of the theory are stated and the general concepts are defined in terms of three sets and seven functions. Ricardo’s Theory of Comparative Advantage and the Factor Proportions Theory by Heckscher and Ohlin are reconstructed as specialisations of the basic element. Two intratheoretical constraints are formulated in order to ensure the consistency of the theory. A number of empirical (...)

  • Structuralist constraints and mathematical social theorizing.Martti Kuokkanen - 1993 - Erkenntnis 38 (3):351 - 370.
Several case studies and theoretical reports indicate that the structuralist concept of a constraint has a central role in the reconstruction of physical theories. It is surprising that there is, in the literature, only little theoretical discussion on the relevance of constraints for the reconstruction of social scientific theories. Almost all structuralist reconstructions of social theorizing are vacuously constrained. Consequently, constraints are methodologically irrelevant. In this paper I try to show that there really exist constraint-type assumptions in mathematical modelling in the (...)

  • On conceptual correlation.Martti Kuokkanen - 1986 - Erkenntnis 25 (3):371 - 401.
In the present paper Cohen's and Lee's theory of social conformity and Festinger's theory of cognitive dissonance are first reconstructed according to a revised form of the so-called “structuralist theory-conception” developed by Sneed and Stegmüller with their collaborators. Then the two theories are conceptually correlated in the sense of a technical notion of conceptual correlation which can be shown to be an essential generalization of the theory-relations handled by the structuralist. It will turn out that there is no unique way (...)
