  1. Kant's Theory of the Intuitive Intellect.Kimberly Brewer - 2022 - History of Philosophy Quarterly 39 (2):163–182.
Kant's theory of the intuitive intellect has a broad and substantial role in the development and exposition of his critical philosophy. An emphasis on this theory's reception and appropriation on the part of the German idealists has tended to divert attention from Kant's own treatment of the topic. In this essay, I seek an adequate overview of the theory Kant advances in support of his critical enterprise. I examine the nature of the intuitive intellect's object; its epistemic relation to its (...)

  • Respublica Noumenon: Kant, Rousseau, and Plato's Republic.Michael Kryluk - forthcoming - Southern Journal of Philosophy.
This article examines the philosophical sources for Kant's interpretation of Plato's Republic and its impact on his conception of the ideal state. I argue that Kant's knowledge of Plato was not derived from Plato's writings, but from secondary accounts. More specifically, I focus on four authors whose discussions of Plato influenced Kant's understanding of the perfect republic: Brucker, Cicero, Wolff, and Rousseau. Two main claims emerge. First, I show that Kant's appeal to the Republic intervenes in a longstanding debate about (...)

  • Between Revolution and Reaction: The Political Significance of Kant’s Doctrine of the Idea.Michael Kryluk - forthcoming - Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie.
This essay argues that Kant’s conception of regulative ideas of practical reason introduced in the Critique of Pure Reason serves an important twofold function in his political philosophy. First, Kant’s version of the ideal, Platonic republic acts as the a priori paradigm of a rightful state to which existing regimes can and should conform. Second, Kant frames the regulative status of such practical ideas as a resolution of the conflict between the extremes of dogmatism and skepticism. In his principal political (...)

Maria Lúcia Cacciola - 2012 - Ethic@ - An International Journal for Moral Philosophy 11 (2):31-42.
