Social values are the basic cultural codes that determine the view of individuals to the world and can change with the effect of some developments. The concept of generation, which is one of the analytical tools used by social sciences to understand and explain the change in question, is used to express the clusters of people who were born in certain time periods. In this context, the Z generation, which is used to indicate those who were born after 2000, presents (...) a unique structure unlike any previous generation in terms of its values and characteristics. On the other hand, the transhumanism movement, which developed and became widespread in almost the same historical period as the Z generation, is one of the most important social movements of the 21st century. This movement, which aims to transform/develop human nature especially through gene technology, robotics and some medical applications and has a secular character, is gradually increasing its influence thanks on the techno-scientific revolutions experienced in the period. Today, with the increasingly radical globalization process, the individuals of the Z generation are directly or indirectly affected by the secular values adopted by the movement in question. This effect brings with it the questioning of some traditional and religious values adopted by the previous generations. In addition, the pragmatic and hedonist philosophy of life of the new generation of young people pave the way for the blurring of some boundaries sharply determined by traditions, especially gender roles. Our study focuses on the overlaps between the values spread by the transhumanist movement and the value tendencies of the Z generation. It is observed that some values such as individuality, critical thinking and open-mindedness, an inquiring approach to assumptions and beliefs, pragmatism, and opposition to all kinds of racism and gender discrimination, which transhumanism adopts, have reflections on the Z generation as well. The aim of our study is to try to understand the changing value tendencies of the Z generation from the perspective of transhumanism and to provide a theoretical ground on the subject. (shrink)

In this article, I present a critique of Robert Geraci's Apocalyptic artificial intelligence (AI) discourse, drawing attention to certain shortcomings which become apparent when the analytical lens shifts from religion to the race–religion nexus. Building on earlier work, I explore the phenomenon of existential risk associated with Apocalyptic AI in relation to “White Crisis,” a modern racial phenomenon with premodern religious origins. Adopting a critical race theoretical and decolonial perspective, I argue that all three phenomena are entangled and they should (...) be understood as a strategy, albeit perhaps merely rhetorical, for maintaining white hegemony under nonwhite contestation. I further suggest that this claim can be shown to be supported by the disclosure of continuity through change in the long‐durée entanglement of race and religion associated with the establishment, maintenance, expansion, and refinement of the modern/colonial world system if and when such phenomena are understood as iterative shifts in a programmatic trajectory of domination which might usefully be framed as “algorithmic racism.”. The aim of this paper is to study the methodological foundations of the humanities education for international students as an alternative to transhumanist ideology. The paradigmatic approach is used as a factor analysis of students' educational processes. Particular attention is paid to the substantiation of the methodological foundations of the education humanisation on the basis of modern ontologically anthropological and religious‐anthropological achievements of the philosophical field of knowledge. The novelty of the study is due to a discussion of the contradictions (...) caused by all‐round technocratisation and informatisation, the fall of moral standards and the degradation of human behaviour. The practical significance of the study is determined by the need to develop a different pedagogy and model of education for modern students. Big historians are attempting to construct a general holistic narrative of human origins enabling an approach to studying the emergence of complexity, the relation between evolutionary processes, and the modern context of human experience and actions. In this paper I attempt to explore the past and future of cosmic evolution within a big historical foundation characterized by physical, biological, and cultural eras of change. From this analysis I offer a model of the human future that includes an addition and/or reinterpretation (...) of technological singularity theory with a new theory of biocultural evolution focused on the potential birth of technological life: the theory of atechnogenesis. Furthermore, I explore the potential deep futures of technological life and extrapolate towards two hypothetical versions of an ‘Omega Civilization’: expansion and compression. (shrink)

El objetivo de este artículo es introducir una comprensión histórica de la relación entre el milenarismo y la tecnología moderna. Tradicionalmente, esta relación ha sido descrita desde el concepto dialéctico de ‘secularización’, la noción de ‘tecnología’ como dominación del ser humano sobre la naturaleza y la noción católica de ‘milenarismo mitigado’. Se señalan algunas limitaciones que imponen estas nociones a una comprensión histórica del fenómeno tecnológico, puesto que ignoran su participación en los procesos históricos de creación de valores. Since the turn of the millennium, theologians and secular scholars of religion have increasingly begun exploring the relationship between transhumanism and religion. However, analyses of anti-transhumanist apocalypticisms are still rare, and those that exist are situated mainly among broader explorations of religious and secular bioconservatism. This article addresses this lack of specificity by drawing analyses of transhumanism and religion into dialogue with explorations of contemporary demonology through a close study of the beliefs of the evangelical conspiracist Thomas Horn and the (...) anti-transhumanist milieu around him. Exploring the milieu's multifaceted demonology of the secular world in light of genealogies of religion and secularity, the article situates Horn's demonology as one attempt to negotiate these genealogies, using what Sean McCloud terms a “‘supernatural’ hermeneutics of suspicion” that sees spiritual forces as the structural base of reality. It argues that, while fringe, milieus like Horn's illuminate broader cultural tensions and genealogical relations surrounding the place of religion in a secular world. (shrink)

인간의 도덕적 향상을 허용해야 하는지의 문제는 신경과학 시대에서 우리가 직면한 대표적인 윤리적 쟁점 가운데 하나이다. 도덕적 향상에 관한 대립적 입장은 생명보수주의와 초인본주의의 양 극단으로 분류된다. 생명보수주의는 인간의 도덕적 향상이 결국엔 인간다음과 인간 본성을 파괴할 위험성이 크다고 경고한다. 이와는 달리 초인본주의는 인류의 도덕적 향상은 더 나은 삶의 영위를 위해 필수불가결한 것이라고 주장한다. 생명보수주의는 인간 본성의 내재적 가치를 주장하지만, 초인본주의는 인간 본성은 문제가 많으므로 개선을 필요로 한다고 본다. 이에 이 논문에서는 초인본주의의 기본 개념과 철학, 초인본주의에서의 도덕적 향상 논리 및 생명정치학적 입장에 대하여 (...) 살펴본 후에, 초인본주의의 도전에 대응하기 위한 방안을 제안하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 이 논문에서는 초인본주의에서의 도덕적 향상 논리가 지닌 문제점을 지적함과 동시에 인간의 도덕성은 기술적 개입이 아닌 도덕교육을 통해 함양될 필요가 있음을 역설하였다.
