    Among PISA-participating nations, the Philippines' reading proficiency rankings for boys and girls were the lowest; in other words, eighty percent of Filipino students lacked the necessary reading proficiency. Students' poor performance in science, math, and English can be attributed to a lack of basic reading and comprehension skills.
