  1. Remarks on the concept of critique in Habermasian thought.Simon Susen - 2010 - Journal of Global Ethics 6 (2):103-126.
The main purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of critique in Habermasian thought. Given that the concept of critique is a central theoretical category in the work of the Frankfurt School, it comes as a surprise that little in the way of a systematic account which sheds light on the multifaceted meanings of the concept of critique in Habermas's oeuvre can be found in the literature. This paper aims to fill this gap by exploring the various meanings (...)

  • Towards critical aspects of Confucianism.Ľubomír Dunaj - 2016 - Ethics and Bioethics (in Central Europe) 6 (3-4):135-145.
This paper consists of two parts. The first deals with the issue of whether it is possible to coherently employ the term ‘critical Confucian’ in general, i.e. whether it is a paradox or oxymoron. It will be argued that Confucianism should not be identified with any particular ideology and, therefore, can be critical. This critical potential, in turn, can be developed by bringing it into dialogue with Critical Theory. As such, the second part indicates, in an introductory way, some possible (...)

  • Reflexivity and globalization: Conditions and capabilities for a dialogical cosmopolitanism.Hans-Herbert Kögler - 2017 - Human Affairs 27 (4):374-388.
This essay develops the core intuition that we need to transform the objective condition of globalization into a reflexive consciousness of a cosmopolitan connectedness. We require a cosmopolitan self-understanding that allows us to respond in a normatively guided way to objective processes that undermine the usual venues of political will formation. Since our global connectedness in terms of economic and political integration is ongoing and seemingly inevitable, we need a similarly inclusive and global approach to critically respond to the challenge (...)

  • The inner conflict of modernity, the moderateness of Confucianism and critical theory.Ľubomír Dunaj - 2017 - Human Affairs 27 (4):466-484.
This paper deals with Care of the Self under globalization. The first part refers to Johann P. Arnason’s interpretation of Jan Patočka’s work on super-civilization and shows the contradictions facing people in the Modern Era. It suggests that the concept of moderateness is an adequate point of departure for handling the various contradictions of the current epoch. The second part looks at selected aspects of Confucian philosophy in which moderateness, that is, the permanent search for a “middle position” is an (...)
