  • The Norwegian Adaptation of the Big Five Inventory-2.Hallvard Føllesdal & Christopher J. Soto - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Two studies were conducted to assess the psychometric properties of scores from the Norwegian adaptation of the Big Five Inventory-2. In Study 1, the BFI-2 was translated to Norwegian and the scores from a convenience sample demonstrated good psychometric properties. BFI-2 scores from subsamples correlated in expected ways with self- and other ratings of the Big Five, and with self-ratings of empathic concern and perspective taking. In Study 2, after some minor improvements in translation, the psychometric properties of BFI-2 scores (...)

  • The Association Between Selfishness, Animal-Oriented Empathy, Three Meat Reduction Motivations (Animal, Health, and Environment), Gender, and Meat Consumption.Angela Dillon-Murray, Aletha Ward & Jeffrey Soar - 2023 - Food Ethics 9 (1):1-21.
This study examined how the level of meat consumption was related to two psychological factors, selfishness and animal-oriented empathy, and three motivations related to animal, health, and environmental issues. A sample of Australian adults between 18 and 80 (N = 497) was surveyed online via the Zoho Survey platform. Structural equation modelling was applied to the data, and the resulting models revealed that higher selfishness and lower empathy were associated with higher meat consumption for males but there was no association (...)

  • The 2D:4D-Ratio and Neuroticism Revisited: Empirical Evidence from Germany and China.Cornelia Sindermann, Mei Li, Rayna Sariyska, Bernd Lachmann, Éilish Duke, Andrew Cooper, Lidia Warneck & Christian Montag - 2016 - Frontiers in Psychology 7:196270.
The 2D:4D-Ratio, as an indirect measure of the fetal testosterone to estradiol ratio, is potentially very important for understanding and explaining different personality traits. It was the aim of the present study to replicate the findings from Fink et al. (2004) about the relation between individual differences in 2D:4D-Ratios and the Five Factor Model in different cultural groups. Therefore a sample of n = 78 Chinese and n = 370 German participants was recruited. Every participant provided hand scans of both (...)

  • Culture, Sex, and Group-Bias in Trait and State Empathy.Qing Zhao, David L. Neumann, Chao Yan, Sandra Djekic & David H. K. Shum - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Empathy is sharing and understanding others’ emotions. Recently, researchers identified a culture–sex interaction effect in empathy. This phenomenon has been largely ignored by previous researchers. In this study, the culture–sex interaction effect was explored with a cohort of 129 participants (61 Australian Caucasians and 68 Chinese Hans) using both self-report questionnaires (i.e., Empathy Quotient and Interpersonal Reactivity Index) and computer-based empathy tasks. In line with the previous findings, the culture–sex interaction effect was observed for both trait empathy (i.e., the generalized (...)
