  1. Being Your Best Self: Authenticity, Morality, and Gender Norms.Rowan Bell - 2024 - Hypatia 39 (1):1-20.
Trans and gender-nonconforming people sometimes say that certain gender norms are authentic for them. For example, a trans man might say that abiding by norms of masculinity tracks who he really is. Authenticity is sometimes taken to appeal to an essential, pre-social “inner self.” It is also sometimes understood as a moral notion. Authenticity claims about gender norms therefore appear inimical to two key commitments in feminist philosophy: that all gender norms are socially constructed, and that many domains of gender (...)

  • Metontology and Heidegger’s concern for the ontic after being and time: challenging the a priori.

  • Revising Resoluteness: Confronting the Moral Problem of Others in Being and Time.Min Seol - 2021 - Journal of the British Society for Phenomenology 53 (3):298-314.
Heidegger’s Being and Time has been criticized for its lack of moral concern toward others. I address this problem by reviewing and developing several revisionist interpretations. I call these the...

  • Existentialism, liberty and the ethical foundations of law.Jonathan George Crowe - 2006 - Dissertation,
The thesis examines the theoretical relationship between law and ethics. Its methodology is informed by both the existentialist tradition of ethical phenomenology and the natural law tradition in legal theory. The main claim of the thesis is that a phenomenological analysis of ethical experience, as suggested by the writings of existentialist authors such as Jean-Paul Sartre and Emmanuel Levinas, provides important support for the natural law tradition. This claim is developed and defended through detailed engagement with the natural law theory (...)

  • The Attestation of the Self as a Bridge Between Hermeneutics and Ontology in the Philosophy of Paul Ricoeur.Sebastian Kaufmann - unknown
Ricoeur defines attestation as the "assurance of being oneself acting and suffering" or as the "assurance - the credence and the trust - of existing in the mode of selfhood." In this dissertation I discuss the concept of attestation in Ricoeur's philosophy in relation to the main dimensions of the self: Capacities, personal identity, memory and otherness. I state that attestation is the key to the three dialectics of Ricoeur's hermeneutics of the self: The dialectic between reflection and analysis, the (...)

  • The Importance of the Authentic Virtuous Employee in the Search for Meaningfulness in Work.Raymond D. Smith & Subodh P. Kulkarni - 2023 - Journal of Human Values 29 (2):122-136.
The article focuses on the ‘meaningfulness in work’ concept and addresses three theoretical gaps by investigating ‘meaningfulness in work’ from the perspective of Heidegger’s ‘authenticity’ and ‘Dasein’ constructs as well as virtue ethics. First, it adapts Heideggerian phenomenology and argues that meaningfulness in work may be revealed to an ‘authentic’ employee, while they performs everyday activities by ‘existing’ in their world and discovers their Dasein. Second, it emphasizes the normative, as opposed to instrumental implications of meaningfulness and invokes virtue ethics (...)

  • Екзистенційна етика само-буття і покликання особистості.Yevhen Muliarchuk - 2020 - Multiversum. Philosophical Almanac 1 (2):144-156.

  • Being Moved: Heideggerian Authenticity and Wolf's Nameless Virtue.David Gray - unknown
Susan Wolf proposes that there is a virtue of character we all dimly recognize but cannot put a name to, a virtue that involves living with an expectation and a willingness to take responsibility for more than what one is rationally on the hook for. For Wolf, recognizing this virtue helps explain why we should feel moved to offer up our time and resources to help resolve the problems we become entangled with by accident. In this thesis, I argue that (...)
