  • Principled moral reasoning: Is it a viable approach to promote ethical integrity? [REVIEW]James Weber & Sharon Green - 1991 - Journal of Business Ethics 10 (5):325 - 333.
    In response to recent recommendations for the teaching of principled moral reasoning in business school curricula, this paper assesses the viability of such an approach. The results indicate that, while business students' level of moral reasoning in this sample are like most 18- to 21-year-olds, they may be incapable of grasping the concepts embodied in principled moral reasoning.     We propose extending business ethics education beyond the formal curriculum to the hidden curriculum where messages about ethics and values are implicitly sent and received. In this meta-learning approach, students learn by becoming active participants in an honorable business school community where real ethical issues are openly discussed and acted upon. When combined with formal ethics instruction, this meta-learning approach provides a framework for a proposed comprehensive program of business ethics education.

  • Understanding salespeople's intention to behave unethically: The effects of perceived competitive intensity, cognitive moral development and moral judgment. [REVIEW]Charles H. Schwepker - 1999 - Journal of Business Ethics 21 (4):303 - 316.
    Three factors considered to potentially influence salespeople's intentions to behave unethically are empirically examined. Although moral judgment is commonly considered a precursor to moral intentions, the effects of cognitive moral development and perceived competitive intensity on moral intentions are not well understood. Results suggest that all three factors influence salespeople's intention to behave unethically. Implications and directions for future research are provided.
