    De los escasos estudios filosóficos dedicados a Die vertauschten Köpfe de Thomas Mann se puede concluir que estamos ante una novela sobre la identidad personal, aunque resulta difícil de decidir en qué sentido lo es. Parecemos condenados a recaer en el dualismo cartesiano del que emerge la identidad autorreferencial del cogito, o bien en el reduccionismo neurocientífico o filosófico en el que la identidad personal deviene algo indiscernible.
