  1. The Importance of Patience in Kierkegaard’s Becoming Self.Amber Bowen - 2020 - Journal of Spiritual Formation and Soul Care 13 (2):211-221.
This article examines the significance of patience in Søren Kierkegaard’s 1843–1844 discourses on patience as a needed corrective for the “common sense” perception of time as an adversary rather than a friend. Kierkegaard stresses the biblical idea of the goodness of time especially in connection to the formation of the self. According to his authorship, the self is not a static being, but one that develops, expands, and becomes its most mature expression through God’s transformative work in time. This perspective (...)

  • A reconsideration of Kierkegaard's understanding of the human other: The hidden ethics of soteriology.Leo Stan - 2010 - Journal of Religious Ethics 38 (2):349-370.
In this article, I embark on an analysis of Søren Kierkegaard's view of human otherness in strict correlation to his Christian philosophy. More specifically, my aim is to show that Kierkegaard's thought is essentially informed by a decisive appropriation of the soteriological category of sin which has momentous implications for Kierkegaard's views of selfhood and intersubjectivity. The main argument is that both Kierkegaard's negative evaluation of human otherness and his acerbic indictments of any collectivist interference in salvific matters cohere with (...)

  • The impatient gaze: on the phenomenon of scrolling in the age of boredom.Jakub Marek - 2023 - Semiotica 2023 (254):107-135.
In four major parts, this study investigates the phenomenon of scrolling. Its first task is to argue in favor of a specific quality of the experience of scrolling, distinguishing it from other forms of distraction, notably from the flow experience. Scrolling takes the shape of aimless drifting. Secondly, it investigates the phenomenon of scrolling against its relevant historical, economic, social, and cultural backdrop, with the intention of understanding scrolling as a typical phenomenon of today, rather than subscribing to a biased (...)

  • Patience in Kierkegaard.Ángel Viñas Vera - 2022 - Veritas – Revista de Filosofia da Pucrs 51:9-33.

  • Fearful asymmetry: Kierkegaard’s search for the direction of time.Patrick Stokes - 2010 - Continental Philosophy Review 43 (4):485-507.
The ancient problem of whether our asymmetrical attitudes towards time are justified remains a live one in contemporary philosophy. Drawing on themes in the work of McTaggart, Parfit, and Heidegger, I argue that this problem is also a key concern of Kierkegaard’s Either/Or. Part I of Either/Or presents the “aesthete” as living a temporally volatilized form of life, devoid of temporal location, sequence and direction. Like Parfit’s character “Timeless,” these aesthetes are indifferent to the direction of time and seemingly do (...)
