  1. Predicativity and Structuralism in Dedekind’s Construction of the Reals.Audrey Yap - 2009 - Erkenntnis 71 (2):157-173.
It is a commonly held view that Dedekind's construction of the real numbers is impredicative. This naturally raises the question of whether this impredicativity is justified by some kind of Platonism about sets. But when we look more closely at Dedekind's philosophical views, his ontology does not look Platonist at all. So how is his construction justified? There are two aspects of the solution: one is to look more closely at his methodological views, and in particular, the places in which (...)

Ernst zermelo in göttingen.Volker Peckhaus - 1990 - History and Philosophy of Logic 11 (1):19-58.

  • A new interpretation of russell's multiple-relation theory of judgment.Gregory Landini - 1991 - History and Philosophy of Logic 12 (1):37-69.
This paper offers an interpretation of Russell's multiple-relation theory of judgment which characterizes it as direct application of the 1905 theory of definite descriptions. The paper maintains that it was by regarding propositional symbols (when occurring as subordinate clauses) as disguised descriptions of complexes, that Russell generated the philosophical explanation of the hierarchy of orders and the ramified theory of types of _Principia mathematica (1910). The interpretation provides a new understanding of Russell's abandoned book _Theory of Knowledge (1913), the 'direction (...)

  • Beppo Levi’s Analysis of the Paradoxes.Riccardo Bruni - 2013 - Logica Universalis 7 (2):211-231.
This paper presents and comments the content of a note by Beppo Levi on logical paradoxes. Though the existence of this contribution is known, very little analysis of it is available in the literature. I put the emphasis on Levi’s usage of “elementation procedures” for solving the set-theoretical paradoxes, which is the most original part of Levi’s approach to the topic.
