It seems certain to me that I will die and stay dead. By “I”, I mean me, Greg Nixon, this person, this self-identity. I am so intertwined with the chiasmus of lives, bodies, ecosystems, symbolic intersubjectivity, and life on this particular planet that I cannot imagine this identity continuing alone without them. However, one may survive one’s life by believing in universal awareness, perfection, and the peace that passes all understanding. Perhaps, we bring this back with us to the Source (...) from which we began, changing it, enriching it. Once we have lived – if we don’t choose the eternal silence of oblivion by life denial, vanity, indifference, or simple weariness – the Source learns and we awaken within it. Awareness, consciousness, is universal – it comes with the territory – so maybe you will be one of the few prepared to become unexpectedly enlightened after the loss of body and self. You may discover your own apotheosis – something you always were, but after a lifetime of primate experience, now much more. Since you are of the Source and since you have changed from life experience and yet retained the dream of ultimate awakening, plus you have brought those chaotic emotions and memories back to the Source with you (though no longer yours), your life & memories will have mattered. What happens to the inner light of consciousness with the death of the individual body and brain? Reductive materialism assumes it simply fades to black. Transhumanism is a means of advocating a re-engineering of conditions that surround human existence at both ends. The problem set before us in this chapter is to inquire into what determined its appearance, in particular in the humanism it seeks to overcome. We look at the spirit of overcoming itself, and the impatience with the Self, in order to try to understand why it seeks a saving power in technology. We then consider how the evolutionary account of the production of (...) organisms does not set them against a perfect standard, but rather injects in them a contingency that seems to be near to the heart of the problem. We then try to assess the objective basis for improvements and manipulation of nature, and although we do not find it forbidden on all occasions, it seems that the criteria for such alterations are impossible to detach from a form of eugenics. We finally open a window toward a theological account of the problem, and find that the desire of autonomy and independence is inevitably going to be challenged by the Christian dogma of creation. Two distinct doctrines of the will operate in Nietzsche. On one, each person has a will that grows out of their engagement with life. This view can be the basis for a feminist epistemology. On the other, the will must be stimulated through the creation of unattainable goals and games of seduction. This view of the will is misogynist, as it posits a self that must constitute for itself a dominated and silenced other.

Resumen El objetivo principal de este texto es el análisis de la concepción poético-filosófica propuesta Peter Sloterdijk (1989) en su libro Thinker on Stage; Nietzsche's Materialism, en el cual intenta revalorar El Nacimiento de la Tragedia de Nietzsche y su influencia en la Modernidad filosófica y las prácticas artísticas contemporáneas. Explorando los conceptos Cosmonáutico y Psiconáutico propuestos por Sloterdijk, indagaremos la relevancia de la interpretación nietzscheana de la tragedia griega para las prácticas artísticas actuales. Cómo es afectada la filosofía al (...) encontrarse con conceptos tales como estilo, práctica y performance es la pregunta central que guía este análisis. El concepto de acción es la herramienta a utilizar en esta exploración.This text aims at the analysis of the poetic-philosophic conception in Peter Sloter-dijk (1989) in his book Thinker on Stage; Nietzsche's Materialism, in which he revalues Nietzsche's The Origin of Tragedy and its influences in philosophical Modernity and contemporary artistic practices. How is philosophy affected in the encounter with concepts such as style, practice, and performance is the main question guiding this analysis.
