  1. The Problem of Political Foundations in Carl Schmitt and Emmanuel Levinas.Gavin Rae - 2016 - New York: Palgrave Macmillan.
In this book, Gavin Rae analyses the foundations of political life by undertaking a critical comparative analysis of the political theologies of Carl Schmitt and Emmanuel Levinas. In so doing, Rae contributes to key debates in contemporary political philosophy, specifically those relating to the nature of, and the relationship between, the theological, the political, and the ethical, as well as those questioning the existence of ahistoric metaphysical, ontological, and epistemological foundations. While the theological is often associated with belief in a (...)

This dissertation examines the contributions of Martin Heidegger and Emmanuel Levinas to an understanding of the fundamental meaning and possibility of ethical phenomena. I begin with the problem of ethics as it is articulated by Heidegger in his criticisms of Western metaphysical thinking. Heidegger claims that we need to rethink the meaning of ethics without reliance on traditional metaphysical categories, but this task remains secondary to his own concern over fundamental ontology. ;Since Heidegger does not concretely explore the meaning of (...)

  • An encounter with ‘sayings’ of curriculum: Levinas and the formalisation of infants’ learning.Sandra Cheeseman, Frances Press & Jennifer Sumsion - 2015 - Educational Philosophy and Theory 47 (8):822-832.

To date, there has been little examination of implications of this policy/curriculum emphasis in relation to its possible implications for how infants are understood. In this article, using (...)
