  1. An offer you can't refuse: systematically exploiting utility-maximisers with malicious gambles.Chalmers Adam - unknown
Decision theory aims to provide mathematical analysis of which choice one should rationally make in a given situation. Our current decision theory norms have been very successful, however, several problems have proven vexing for standard decision theory. In this paper, I show that these problems all share a similar structure and identify a class of problems which decision theory overvalues. I demonstrate that agents who follow current standard decision theory can be exploited and have their preferences reordered if offered decision (...)

  • Retrieving "fraudulent" Soal-Goldney target series from the source originally reported: Confirmation by Benford’s Law and empirical expectation.Roderick Garton - 2010 - Journal of Scientific Exploration 24 (3).
Given abiding questions in the establishment of fraud in the Soal and Goldney (1943) study of "precognitive telepathy," retrieval was attempted of a sample of its target series from their reported source, viz., final digits of 7-figure logarithms. Distinct from earlier efforts, but consistent with Soal's statements, the length of retrievals was not assumed, and it was hypothesized that retrievals should most frequently occur within the first 20 pages of the published source. Testing 30 published series largely marked as fraudulent, (...)
