  1. Critical theories of neoliberalism and their significance for left politics.Matthew Lepori - 2020 - Contemporary Political Theory 19 (3):453-474.
Few have treated the critical literature on neoliberalism as an object of study in its own right. Those that have question the literature’s partisanship, theoretical coherence, and explanatory power, denouncing it as a thinly veiled form of leftist politics. Rather than leave the matter there, I pick up the thread and ask the following: if the critical theorization of neoliberalism is a leftist pursuit, what does it do for the left? How does the critique of neoliberalism affect the left’s self-understanding, (...)

  • The Anti-Nazi League, ‘Another White Organisation’? British Black Radicals against Racial Fascism.Alfie Hancox - 2023 - Historical Materialism 31 (3):276-303.
This article explores how Britain’s Black Power movement challenged the political outlook of the anti-fascist left in the 1960s–70s. While the established left interpreted the National Front (NF) as an aberrant threat to Britain’s social democracy, Black political groups foregrounded the systemic racial violence of the British state. By addressing intensifying racial oppression during a critical early phase in the transition to neoliberalism, they prefigured Stuart Hall’s analysis of ‘authoritarian populism’. The British Black Power movement especially criticised the high-profile Anti-Nazi (...)

  • Book Review: A glitch in the matrix: Vivek Chibber and the cultural turn. [REVIEW]Katie Ebner-Landy - forthcoming - Philosophy and Social Criticism.
Chibber’s The Class Matrix and Confronting Capitalism aim to rescue class from the cultural turn. Rather than thinking that mass media mollified the working class, he suggests we re-investigate capitalism itself. We can then see how hard capitalism makes it to take risks for the collective. Chibber’s solution is to shift people from ‘individualistic to solidaristic’ ways of thinking through lived practices, rather than the arts. This review argues, however, that by excluding the culture industry from encouraging solidaristic ways of (...)

  • Taking Blockchain Seriously.Robert Herian - 2018 - Law and Critique 29 (2):163-171.
In the present techno-political moment it is clear that ignoring or dismissing the hype surrounding blockchain is unwise, and certainly for regulatory authorities and governments who must keep a grip on the technology and those promoting it, in order to ensure democratic accountability and regulatory legitimacy within the blockchain ecosystem and beyond. Blockchain is telling us something very important about the evolution of capital and neoliberal economic reason, and the likely impact in the near future on forms and patterns of (...)

Over time, the quantitative difference grows between what Marx wrote and what those coming after Marx have written. However, rather than a process in which those following have built constructively...
