  1. ASKING MORE FROM THE ONLINE UNIVERSITY. CAN WE THINK TOGETHER WHILE SEPARATED BY A SCREEN?Lavinia Marin - 2022 - Teoría de la Educación 34 (2).
The switch to online education that occurred during the Corona pandemic brought to the fore questions about the value and desirability of a fully online university. This article explores to what extent is a fully online university desirable from an educational perspective, whereby education is seen as a valuable experience taken in itself, regardless of its output. I start from the hypothesis that a fundamental dimension of study practices at the university is the experience of collective thinking triggered by specific (...)

  • Ambiguous authority: Reflections on Hannah Arendt’s concept of authority in education.Julien Kloeg & Liesbeth Noordegraaf-Eelens - 2022 - Educational Philosophy and Theory 54 (10):1631-1641.
For Hannah Arendt, authority is the shape educational responsibility assumes. In our time, authority in Arendt’s sense is under pressure. The figure of Greta Thunberg shows the failure of adult generations, taken collectively, to take responsibility for the world and present and future generations of newcomers. However, in reflecting on Arendt’s use of authority, we argue that her account of authority also requires amendments. Arendt’s situating of educational authority in-between past and future adequately captures its temporal dimension. We make explicit (...)

  • Reading Kant as a radical empiricist: or how to find an orientation for education after progress.Joris Vlieghe - 2024 - Journal of Philosophy of Education 57 (6):1059-1071.
This article deals with the educational challenge of responding to the pending ecological crisis (and many other future apocalyptic scenarios that haunt our imagination). It seems we are living in a time when we have given up on the idea that progress is possible or desirable, and this questions education at its roots. In order to find a proper educational response that befits our time, it is requested that we gain a new sense of orientation (which is no longer aimed (...)

  • Teaching as Altered Knowledge: Rethinking the Teaching Practice with Michel De Certeau.Federico Rovea - 2021 - Studies in Philosophy and Education 41 (1):55-69.
Michel De Certeau’s scholars have rarely explored the pedagogical potential of the French thinker’s thought. This paper aims at reconstructing the question of the teaching practice in De Certeau’s works and, building on such reconstruction, it proposes a possible ‘heterological’ comprehension of teaching. Moving from an early writing dealing specifically with the teacher’s identity, the paper shows how the famous dyad of strategies and tactics exposed in The practice of everyday life can be usefully applied to teaching and studying and (...)
