    This article explores two central notions of ‘dialectics’ and ‘dialogics’ based on the work of Vygotsky and Bakhtin respectively, as well their varying interanimations within Stalin-Marxist Russian societyIt is proposed that these two positions are incommensurably located alongside one another in contemporary education.     From the very beginning, it has been difficult to extract a smooth narrative from the complex plot of Bakhtin’s life and work.
