  1. Fundamental Laws of Nature and Picture of the World.Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Somsikov & Svetlana Nikolaevna Azarenko - 2021 - Open Journal of Philosophy 11 (2):292-306.
The question of constructing an evolutionary picture of the world based on the results obtained by extending classical mechanics is considered. The expansion of mechanics arose as a result of taking into account the role of the structure of bodies in their dynamics. It is shown that such an extension leads to the possibility of combining branches of physics, in particular, to the substantiation of the laws of thermodynamics, statistical physics, kinetics within the framework of the laws of classical mechanics. (...)

  • Physics is Organized Around Transformations Connecting Contextures in a Polycontextural World.Johannes Falk, Edwin Eichler, Katja Windt & Marc-Thorsten Hütt - 2022 - Foundations of Science 27 (3):1229-1251.
The rich body of physical theories defines the foundation of our understanding of the world. Its mathematical formulation is based on classical Aristotelian logic. In the philosophy of science the ambiguities, paradoxes, and the possibility of subjective interpretations of facts have challenged binary logic, leading, among other developments, to Gotthard Günther’s theory of polycontexturality. Günther’s theory explains how observers with subjective perception can become aware of their own subjectivity and provides means to describe contradicting or even paradox observations in a (...)

  • Complementary Observables in Quantum Mechanics.Jukka Kiukas, Pekka Lahti, Juha-Pekka Pellonpää & Kari Ylinen - 2019 - Foundations of Physics 49 (6):506-531.
We review the notion of complementarity of observables in quantum mechanics, as formulated and studied by Paul Busch and his colleagues over the years. In addition, we provide further clarification on the operational meaning of the concept, and present several characterisations of complementarity—some of which new—in a unified manner, as a consequence of a basic factorisation lemma for quantum effects. We work out several applications, including the canonical cases of position–momentum, position–energy, number–phase, as well as periodic observables relevant to spatial (...)
