  1. The Future of Stakeholder Management Theory: A Temporal Perspective. [REVIEW]Alain Verbeke & Vincent Tung - 2013 - Journal of Business Ethics 112 (3):529-543.
We propose adding a temporal dimension to stakeholder management theory, and assess the implications thereof for firm-level competitive advantage. We argue that a firm’s competitive advantage fundamentally depends on its capacity for stakeholder management related, transformational adaptation over time. Our new temporal stakeholder management approach builds upon insights from both the resource-based view (RBV) in strategic management and institutional theory. Stakeholder agendas and their relative salience to the firm evolve over time, a phenomenon well understood in the literature, and requiring (...)

  • Who is right about the modern economy: Polanyi, Zelizer, or both? [REVIEW]Philippe Steiner - 2009 - Theory and Society 38 (1):97-110.
Zelizer’s work may be read as an attack on the central Polanyian thesis: that the market system threatens social life by the undue prominence it lends the economy in the organization of modern society. The recent publication of Viviana Zelizer’s The Purchase of Intimacy (2005a) is therefore an excellent opportunity to review the general trend of her work Zelizer 1979, 1985, 1994, and contrast her leading ideas to the central thesis that gives Polanyi’s work its particular flavor: the danger encapsulated (...)

  • The alternative food movement in Japan: Challenges, limits, and resilience of the teikei system.Kazumi Kondoh - 2015 - Agriculture and Human Values 32 (1):143-153.
The teikei movement is a Japanese version of the alternative food movement, which emerged around the late 1960s and early 1970s. Similar to now well-known Community Supported Agriculture, it is a farmer-consumer partnership that involves direct exchanges of organic foods. It also aims to build a community that coexists with the natural environment through mutually supportive relationships between farmers and consumers. This article examined the history of the teikei movement. The movement began as a reaction to negative impacts of mechanized (...)

  • Socialist Accounting” by Karl Polanyi: with preface “Socialism and the embedded economy.Johanna Bockman, Ariane Fischer & David Woodruff - 2016 - Theory and Society 45 (5):385-427.
Ariane Fischer, David Woodruff, and Johanna Bockman have translated Karl Polanyi’s “Sozialistische Rechnungslegung” [“Socialist Accounting”] from 1922. In this article, Polanyi laid out his model of a future socialism, a world in which the economy is subordinated to society. Polanyi described the nature of this society and a kind of socialism that he would remain committed to his entire life. Accompanying the translation is the preface titled “Socialism and the embedded economy.” In the preface, Bockman explains the historical context of (...)
