Abstract

Climate change is no longer a distant threat—it is an unfolding reality that now converges with another profound global trend: population aging. By 2050, the number of people aged over 60 is projected to more than double, reaching 1.5 billion and accounting for 22% of the world’s population. This demographic shift is most pronounced in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where health systems often lack the resources and capacity to meet the growing needs of older populations. Simultaneously, rising global temperatures and increasingly frequent extreme weather events are compounding health risks for seniors.
