Abstract
R. Otto (1869-1937) is known for his work in the field of philosophy of religion. The
article addresses his main contributions, with special attention to the Aufsätze zur
Ethik and its connection to The Idea of the Holy. Against the idea that Otto is unable
to develop an ethics without giving up some fundamental positions of The Idea of
the Holy, the article argues in favor of their agreement with his ethical writings, on
the basis of the thesis that not everything we know is a form of knowledge (wissen),
in the sense of intellectual representation
