  1. Innate Mathematical Characteristics and Number Sense Competencies of Junior High School Students.Raymundo A. Santos, Leila M. Collantes, Edwin D. Ibañez, Florante P. Ibarra & Jupeth Pentang - 2022 - International Journal of Learning, Teaching and Educational Research 21 (10):325-340.
The study determined the influence of innate mathematical characteristics on the number sense competencies of junior high school students in a Philippine public school. The descriptive-correlational research design was used to accomplish the study involving a nonrandom sample of sixty 7th-grade students attending synchronous math sessions. Data obtained from the math-specific Learning Style and Self-Efficacy questionnaires and the modified Number Sense Test (NST) were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s Chi-Square, and Simple Linear Regression analysis. The research instruments and (...)

  2. Parental Involvement and Its Effect on College Students’ Academic Motivation and Self-Concept.Leila Ella Bleu Abay-Abay, Wendy Anne Badion, Janine Marigold Lopez, Marian Eunice Mangahas, Ariann Ramiro & Bea Teresa Sengco - 2024 - Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal 18 (3):235-246.
Parental involvement is one of the primary factors that affect children’s development and individuality. However, its effect on the academic motivation and self-concept of college students is not well understood, especially in the Philippines. The present study used the Ecological systems theory by Bronfenbrenner to investigate the effect of varying parental involvement on the academic motivation and self-concept of college students at Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College. Purposive sampling was used among 198 college students from Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College (...)

  3. Mindset and Levels of Conceptual Understanding in the Problem-Solving of Preservice Mathematics Teachers in an Online Learning Environment.Ma Luisa Mariano-Dolesh, Leila Collantes, Edwin Ibañez & Jupeth Pentang - 2022 - International Journal of Learning, Teaching and Educational Research 21 (6):18-33.
Mindset plays a vital role in tackling the barriers to improving the preservice mathematics teachers’ (PMTs) conceptual understanding of problem-solving. As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to pose a challenge, online learning has been adopted. This led this study to determining the PMTs’ mindset and level of conceptual understanding in problem-solving in an online learning environment utilising Google Classroom and the Khan Academy. A quantitative research design was employed specifically utilising a descriptive, comparative, and correlational design. Forty-five PMTs were chosen (...)

The Internet-of-Things (IoT) is gradually being established as the new computing paradigm, which is bound to change the ways of our everyday working and living. IoT emphasizes the interconnection of virtually all types of physical objects (e.g., cell phones, wearables, smart meters, sensors, coffee machines and more) towards enabling them to exchange data and services among themselves, while also interacting with humans as well. Few years following the introduction of the IoT concept, significant hype was generated as a result of (...)

  6. From Opposition to Creativity: Saba Mahmood’s Decolonial Critique of Teleological Feminist Futures (Open Access).Muhammad Velji - forthcoming - Hypatia.
Saba Mahmood’s anthropological work studies the gain in skills, agency and capacity building by the women’s dawa movement in Egypt. These women increase their virtue toward the goal of piety by following dominant, often patriarchal norms. Mahmood argues that “teleological feminism” ignores this gain in agency because this kind of feminism only focuses on opposition or resistance to these norms. In this paper I defend Mahmood’s “anti-teleological” feminist work from criticisms that her project valorizes oppression and has no vision for (...)

  7. Redefining revolutions.Andrew Aberdein - 2017 - In Moti Mizrahi (ed.), The Kuhnian Image of Science: Time for a Decisive Transformation? London: Rowman & Littlefield. pp. 133–154.
In their account of theory change in logic, Aberdein and Read distinguish 'glorious' from 'inglorious' revolutions--only the former preserves all 'the key components of a theory' [1]. A widespread view, expressed in these terms, is that empirical science characteristically exhibits inglorious revolutions but that revolutions in mathematics are at most glorious [2]. Here are three possible responses: 0. Accept that empirical science and mathematics are methodologically discontinuous; 1. Argue that mathematics can exhibit inglorious revolutions; 2. Deny that inglorious revolutions are (...)

  8. Mitä uutta modernissa logiikassa?Panu Raatikainen - 2004 - In Raatikainen Panu (ed.), Filosofisia tutkielmia – Philosophical Studies in honorem Leila Haaparanta. Tampere University Press.
logiikka on lopullinen ja täydellinen logiikka. Sittemmin logiikka on kuitenkin kokenut melkoisen mullistuksen. Käsitykset siitä, mikä tässä muutoksessa oli olennaista ja milloin se todella tapahtui, vaihtelevat.
