  • Computability-theoretic complexity of countable structures.Valentina S. Harizanov - 2002 - Bulletin of Symbolic Logic 8 (4):457-477.
Computable model theory, also called effective or recursive model theory, studies algorithmic properties of mathematical structures, their relations, and isomorphisms. These properties can be described syntactically or semantically. One of the major tasks of computable model theory is to obtain, whenever possible, computability-theoretic versions of various classical model-theoretic notions and results. For example, in the 1950's, Fröhlich and Shepherdson realized that the concept of a computable function can make van der Waerden's intuitive notion of an explicit field precise. This led (...)

  • Generalized weak presentations.Alexandra Shlapentokh - 2002 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 67 (2):787-819.
Let K be a computable field. Let F be a collection of recursive functions over K, possibly including field operations. We investigate the following question. Given an r.e. degree a, is there an injective map j: K $\longrightarrow \mathbb{N}$ such that j(K) is of degree a and all the functions in F are translated by restrictions of total recursive functions.

  • Coding a family of sets.J. F. Knight - 1998 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 94 (1-3):127-142.
In this paper, we state a metatheorem for constructions involving coding. Using the metatheorem, we obtain results on coding a family of sets into a family of relations, or into a single relation. For a concrete example, we show that the set of limit points in a recursive ordering of type ω 2 can have arbitrary 2-REA degree.

  • On decidability of amenability in computable groups.Karol Duda & Aleksander Ivanov - 2022 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 61 (7):891-902.
The main result of the paper states that there is a finitely presented group _G_ with decidable word problem where detection of finite subsets of _G_ which generate amenable subgroups is not decidable.

  • Realizing Levels of the Hyperarithmetic Hierarchy as Degree Spectra of Relations on Computable Structures.Walker M. White & Denis R. Hirschfeldt - 2002 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 43 (1):51-64.
We construct a class of relations on computable structures whose degree spectra form natural classes of degrees. Given any computable ordinal and reducibility r stronger than or equal to m-reducibility, we show how to construct a structure with an intrinsically invariant relation whose degree spectrum consists of all nontrivial r-degrees. We extend this construction to show that can be replaced by either or.
