  1. A multimodal discourse analysis of glocalization and cultural identity in three Indian TV commercials.Damodar Suar, Priyadarshi Patnaik & Amarendra Kumar Dash - 2016 - Discourse and Communication 10 (3):209-234.
Improvising selected tools from Kress and Van Leeuwen’s inter-semiosis framework, this study explores how, between global and local, TV commercials in India often reframe a cultural third space producing new discursive forms and identities. By drawing on the connectionistconceptual model of the brand generative trajectory of signification it will be displayed in a stepwise fashion how a set of nuclear semes and classemes or anintended semic structure that underlies manifest discursive structures may be projected by its internal stakeholders with view to attaining differential brand associations. The suggested methodological framework focuses on the strength and uniqueness (...)

  • Your Brain on Comics: A Cognitive Model of Visual Narrative Comprehension.Neil Cohn - 2020 - Topics in Cognitive Science 12 (1):352-386.
Visual narratives like comics involve a range of complex cognitive operations in order to be understood. The Parallel Interfacing Narrative‐Semantics (PINS) Model integrates an emerging literature showing that comprehension of wordless image sequences balances two representational levels of semantic and narrative structure. The neurocognitive mechanisms that guide these processes are argued to overlap with other domains, such as language and music.
