  • Undecidability of the Problem of Recognizing Axiomatizations of Superintuitionistic Propositional Calculi.Evgeny Zolin - 2014 - Studia Logica 102 (5):1021-1039.
    We give a new proof of the following result : it is undecidable whether a given calculus, that is a finite set of propositional formulas together with the rules of modus ponens and substitution, axiomatizes the classical logic. Moreover, we prove the same for every superintuitionistic calculus. As a corollary, it is undecidable whether a given calculus is consistent, whether it is superintuitionistic, whether two given calculi have the same theorems, whether a given formula is derivable in a given calculus. The story weaves together an article of van Benthem, “Syntactic aspects of modal incompleteness theorems,” and a longstanding open question: whether every normal modal logic can be characterized by a class of completely additive modal algebras, or as we call them, ${\cal V}$-baos.     In this paper we find an algebraic equivalent of the Hallden property in modal logics, namely, we prove that the Hallden-completeness in any normal modal logic is equivalent to the so-called super-embedding property of a suitable class of modal algebras. The joint embedding property of a class of algebras is equivalent to the Pseudo-Relevance Property. We consider connections of the above-mentioned properties with interpolation and amalgamation.     This paper gives a new, purely semantic proof of the following theorem: if an intermediate propositional logic L has the disjunction property then a disjunction free formula is provable in L iff it is provable in intuitionistic logic. The main idea of the proof is to use the well-known semantic criterion of the disjunction property for "simulating" finite binary trees (which characterize the disjunction free fragment of intuitionistic logic) by general frames.

  • Algorithmic problems concerning first-order definability of modal formulas on the class of all finite frames.A. V. Chagrov & L. A. Chagrova - 1995 - Studia Logica 55 (3):421 - 448.
    The main result is that is no effective algorithmic answer to the question:how to recognize whether arbitrary modal formula has a first-order equivalent on the class of finite frames. Besides, two known problems are solved: it is proved algorithmic undecidability of finite frame consequence between modal formulas; the difference between global and local variants of first-order definability of modal formulas on the class of transitive frames is shown.

If L is finitely axiomatizable by modal formulas having universal Horn first-order correspondents, then both [L,K] and [L,S5] are determined by classes of frames that admit filtration, and so they have the fmp.
