  1. Modal reduction principles: a parametric shift to graphs.Willem Conradie, Krishna Manoorkar, Alessandra Palmigiano & Mattia Panettiere - 2024 - Journal of Applied Non-Classical Logics 34 (2):174-222.
Graph-based frames have been introduced as a logical framework which internalises an inherent boundary to knowability (referred to as ‘informational entropy’), due, e.g. to perceptual, evidential or linguistic limits. They also support the interpretation of lattice-based (modal) logics as hyper-constructive logics of evidential reasoning. Conceptually, the present paper proposes graph-based frames as a formal framework suitable for generalising Pawlak's rough set theory to a setting in which inherent limits to knowability exist and need to be considered. Technically, the present paper (...)

This chapter presents a new semantics for inductive empirical knowledge. The epistemic agent is represented concretely as a learner who processes new inputs through time and who forms new beliefs from those inputs by means of a concrete, computable learning program. The agent’s belief state is represented hyper-intensionally as a set of time-indexed sentences. Knowledge is interpreted as avoidance of error in the limit and as having converged to true belief from the present time onward. Familiar topics are re-examined within (...)

  • Correspondence and canonicity theory of quasi-inequalities and Π 2-statements in modal subordination algebras.Zhiguang Zhao - 2024 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 32 (5):729-778.
In the present paper, we study the correspondence and canonicity theory of modal subordination algebras and their dual Stone space with two relations, generalizing correspondence results for subordination algebras in [13–15, 25]. Due to the fact that the language of modal subordination algebras involves a binary subordination relation, we will find it convenient to use the so-called quasi-inequalities and $\varPi _{2}$-statements. We use an algorithm to transform (restricted) inductive quasi-inequalities and (restricted) inductive $\varPi _{2}$-statements to equivalent first-order correspondents on the (...)

A Heyting algebra is supplemented if each element a has a dual pseudo-complement \, and a Heyting algebra is centrally supplement if it is supplemented and each supplement is central. We show that each Heyting algebra has a centrally supplemented extension in the same variety of Heyting algebras as the original. We use this tool to investigate a new type of completion of Heyting algebras arising in the context of algebraic proof theory, the so-called hyper-MacNeille completion. We show that the (...)

  • Hypersequent and Display Calculi – a Unified Perspective.Agata Ciabattoni, Revantha Ramanayake & Heinrich Wansing - 2014 - Studia Logica 102 (6):1245-1294.
This paper presents an overview of the methods of hypersequents and display sequents in the proof theory of non-classical logics. In contrast with existing surveys dedicated to hypersequent calculi or to display calculi, our aim is to provide a unified perspective on these two formalisms highlighting their differences and similarities and discussing applications and recent results connecting and comparing them.

  • A Sahlqvist theorem for substructural logic.Tomoyuki Suzuki - 2013 - Review of Symbolic Logic 6 (2):229-253.
In this paper, we establish the first-order definability of sequents with consistent variable occurrence on bi-approximation semantics by means of the Sahlqvist–van Benthem algorithm. Then together with the canonicity results in Suzuki (2011), this allows us to establish a Sahlqvist theorem for substructural logic. Our result is not limited to substructural logic but is also easily applicable to other lattice-based logics.

  • Algorithmic correspondence for hybrid logic with binder.Zhiguang Zhao - 2023 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 31 (1):39-67.
In the present paper, we develop the algorithmic correspondence theory for hybrid logic with binder |$\mathcal {H}(@, \downarrow )$|. We define the class of Sahlqvist inequalities for |$\mathcal {H}(@, \downarrow )$|, and each inequality of which is shown to have a first-order frame correspondent effectively computable by an algorithm |$\textsf {ALBA}^{\downarrow }$|.

  • Disentangling Structural Connectives or Life Without Display Property.Sergey Drobyshevich - 2019 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 48 (2):279-303.
The work is concerned with the so called display property of display logic. The motivation behind it is discussed and challenged. It is shown using one display calculus for intuitionistic logic as an example that the display property can be abandoned without losing subformula, cut elimination and completeness properties in such a way that results in additional expressive power of the system. This is done by disentangling structural connectives so that they are no longer context-sensitive. A recipe for characterizing structural (...)

In the present paper, we start studying epistemic updates using the standard toolkit of duality theory. We focus on public announcements, which are the simplest epistemic actions, and hence on Public Announcement Logic without the common knowledge operator. As is well known, the epistemic action of publicly announcing a given proposition is semantically represented as a transformation of the model encoding the current epistemic setup of the given agents; the given current model being replaced with its submodel relativized to the (...)

  • Sahlqvist Completeness Theory for Hybrid Logic with Downarrow Binder.Zhiguang Zhao - forthcoming - Logic Journal of the IGPL.
In the present paper, we continue the research in Zhao (2021, Logic J. IGPL) to develop the Sahlqvist completeness theory for hybrid logic with satisfaction operators and downarrow binders |$\mathcal {L}( @, {\downarrow })$|. We define the class of restricted Sahlqvist formulas for |$\mathcal {L}( @, {\downarrow })$| following the ideas in Conradie and Robinson (2017, J. Logic Comput., 27, 867–900), but we follow a different proof strategy which is purely proof-theoretic, namely showing that for every restricted Sahlqvist formula |$\varphi (...)

We introduce the logic LRC, designed to describe and reason about agents’ abilities and capabilities in using resources. The proposed framework bridges two—up to now—mutually independent strands of literature: the one on logics of abilities and capabilities, developed within the theory of agency, and the one on logics of resources, motivated by program semantics. The logic LRC is suitable to describe and reason about key aspects of social behaviour in organizations. We prove a number of properties enjoyed by LRC and (...)
