  1. Friendships of Virtue, Pursuit of the Moral Community, and the Ends of Business.Richard M. Robinson - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 151 (1):85-100.
It is argued here that business firms can and do provide an incubator that enables the Aristotelian category of friendships of advantage to develop into friendships of virtue. This contradicts other literature that views acquaintances of utility as the business norm, and expresses pessimism concerning more advanced virtuous development of friendship within the business firm. It is argued here, however, that this virtuous development is integral to the Kantian social aim of pursuing a moral community, an aim which declares the (...)

  • Personal AI, deception, and the problem of emotional bubbles.Philip Maxwell Thingbø Mlonyeni - forthcoming - AI and Society:1-12.
Personal AI is a new type of AI companion, distinct from the prevailing forms of AI companionship. Instead of playing a narrow and well-defined social role, like friend, lover, caretaker, or colleague, with a set of pre-determined responses and behaviors, Personal AI is engineered to tailor itself to the user, including learning to mirror the user’s unique emotional language and attitudes. This paper identifies two issues with Personal AI. First, like other AI companions, it is deceptive about the presence of (...)

On the one hand, there are what I call “Kantian collegial relationships”, which have been outlined in a recent account by Betzler & (...)

  • The Moral Duty to Love One’s Stakeholders.Muel Kaptein - 2022 - Journal of Business Ethics 180 (2):813-827.
Much has been written about the general moral duty to love one’s neighbors. In this article, I explore the specific application of this moral duty in the work setting. I argue from a secular perspective that individuals have the moral duty to love their stakeholders. Loving one’s stakeholders is an affective valuing of the stake-related values these stakeholders pursue and as such is the real recognition of one’s stakeholders as stakeholders and of oneself as a stakeholder of one’s stakeholders. This (...)
