  1. (1 other version)Algebraic logic for classical conjunction and disjunction.Josep M. Font & Ventura Verdú - 1991 - Studia Logica 50 (3):391 - 419.
In this paper we study the relations between the fragment L of classical logic having just conjunction and disjunction and the variety D of distributive lattices, within the context of Algebraic Logic. We prove that these relations cannot be fully expressed either with the tools of Blok and Pigozzi's theory of algebraizable logics or with the use of reduced matrices for L. However, these relations can be naturally formulated when we introduce a new notion of model of a sequent calculus. (...)

  • A Note on Natural Extensions in Abstract Algebraic Logic.Petr Cintula & Carles Noguera - 2015 - Studia Logica 103 (4):815-823.
Transfer theorems are central results in abstract algebraic logic that allow to generalize properties of the lattice of theories of a logic to any algebraic model and its lattice of filters. Their proofs sometimes require the existence of a natural extension of the logic to a bigger set of variables. Constructions of such extensions have been proposed in particular settings in the literature. In this paper we show that these constructions need not always work and propose a wider setting in (...)

  • Categorical abstract algebraic logic: Gentzen π ‐institutions and the deduction‐detachment property.George Voutsadakis - 2005 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 51 (6):570-578.
Given a π -institution I , a hierarchy of π -institutions I is constructed, for n ≥ 1. We call I the n-th order counterpart of I . The second-order counterpart of a deductive π -institution is a Gentzen π -institution, i.e. a π -institution associated with a structural Gentzen system in a canonical way. So, by analogy, the second order counterpart I of I is also called the “Gentzenization” of I . In the main result of the paper, it (...)

  • A deduction theorem schema for deductive systems of propositional logics.Janusz Czelakowski & Wies?aw Dziobiak - 1991 - Studia Logica 50 (3-4):385 - 390.
We propose a new schema for the deduction theorem and prove that the deductive system S of a prepositional logic L fulfills the proposed schema if and only if there exists a finite set A(p, q) of propositional formulae involving only prepositional letters p and q such that A(p, p) L and p, A(p, q) s q.

Arrow and turnstile interpolations are investigated in UCL [introduced by Sernadas et al. ], a logic that is a complete extension of classical propositional logic for reasoning about connectives that only behave as expected with a given probability. Arrow interpolation is shown to hold in general and turnstile interpolation is established under some provisos.

  • Categorical abstract algebraic logic metalogical properties.George Voutsadakis - 2003 - Studia Logica 74 (3):369 - 398.
Metalogical properties that have traditionally been studied in the deductive system context (see, e.g., [21]) and transferred later to the institution context [33], are here formulated in the -institution context. Preservation under deductive equivalence of -institutions is investigated. If a property is known to hold in all algebraic -institutions and is preserved under deductive equivalence, then it follows that it holds in all algebraizable -institutions in the sense of [36].

  • Fragments of R-Mingle.W. J. Blok & J. G. Raftery - 2004 - Studia Logica 78 (1-2):59-106.
The logic RM and its basic fragments (always with implication) are considered here as entire consequence relations, rather than as sets of theorems. A new observation made here is that the disjunction of RM is definable in terms of its other positive propositional connectives, unlike that of R. The basic fragments of RM therefore fall naturally into two classes, according to whether disjunction is or is not definable. In the equivalent quasivariety semantics of these fragments, which consist of subreducts of (...)

  • Logics preserving degrees of truth.Marek Nowak - 1990 - Studia Logica 49 (4):483 - 499.
The paper introduces a concept of logic applied to a formalization of the so-called inferences preserving degrees of truth. Semantical and syntactical characterizations of three kinds of logics preserving degrees of truth are provided. The other approach than in [3] and [9] to the problem of expressing that a sentence is less true than a sentence is presented.
