Die Physikalisierung der Psychologie war für Carnap Teil eines Programms, das die Sonderstellung der Psychologie als Wissenschaft des menschlichen Denkens und Fühlens als Illusion entlarven und zeigen sollte, die Psychologie sei ein Teil der Physik wie alle anderen Wissenschaften auch. In etwas anderer Motivation zielte Carnaps Physikalismus ausserdem auf eine Überwindung der Trennung von Geistes–wissenschaften und Naturwissenschaften: Erwiese sich die Psychologie sich als physikalisierbar, wäre das ein wesentlicher Schritt für die Vereinheitlichung der Wissenschaften in Gestalt einer enzyklopädischen „Einheitswissenschaft“ überhaupt. Carnaps (...) Argument für die Physikalisierbarkeit der Psychologie als ganzer basierte auf der These der Physikalisierbarkeit der Graphologie als zentraler Teildisziplin der Psychologie. Die Graphologie sei der begrifflich am weitesten fortgeschrittene und deshalb am ehesten physikalisierbare Teil der Psychologie. Das verdanke sie in erster Linie den wegweisenden Arbeiten Ludwig Klages’. Erweise sich die Graphologie als physikalisierbar, stehe einer durchgehenden Physikalisierung aller Wissenschaften nichts mehr im Wege. Als Episode in Carnaps philosophischer Entwicklung ist dem Graphologieprojekt bis heute kaum Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt worden. Das ist ein Versäumnis, manifestiert sich in diesem Projekt doch der allgemeine Stil des Carnapschen Philosophierens besonders deutlich, nämlich von einer sehr abstrakten und idealisierten Vorstellung von Wissenschaft ausgehend weitreichende philosophische Folgerungen zu ziehen. The article starts from an examination of the authorship of the ‘Geleitwort’, the programmatic statement which appeared in the Archiv für Sozialwissenschaft when it came under new editors in 1904. Recently scholars have begun to view it as an important text by Max Weber recovered from obscurity, but this is a mistake. Examination of major contemporary works by Weber and Werner Sombart – the obvious co-author – as well as the first public disclosure of an entirely new MS. by Weber, (...) show that in all probability the text was drafted by Sombart and then revised fairly lightly by Weber. This story of a combined, if unequal, authorship leads into two broader seams of intellectual history: the relationship between Weber and Sombart, and the history of the Archiv as a journal. An unusual starting point thus casts fresh and unexpected light on some of the most central figures and episodes in German social science at the beginning of the 20th century, not least Weber's seminal essay on “Objectivity” in social science. ☆ This paper relies on intellectual interchange and the generosity of colleagues to a quite unusual degree. The purpose of this article is to map the so-called predialogical level of Martin Buber’s thinking. In Daniel Buber appears as a romantic culture critic. What is discussed in the book about realization is not dialogues in Buber’s style – rather in the style of Plato, but they are not didactic discussions – they are filled with feeling and spirit and a cosmic home-sickness. The conversations take place in a romantic landscape, a dream-like meadow when twilight sets in. Realization and (...) meaning are topics in Daniel that come back in later writings. In his “Geleitwort” to the collection Die Gesellschaft Buber defines sociology as “the science of the inter-human forms”. These forms are later built into overall cosmic connections. (shrink)
