Trust is a key dimension of human-robot interaction, and has often been studied in the HRI community. A common challenge arises from the difficulty of assessing trust levels in ecologically invalid environments: we present in this paper two independent laboratory studies, totalling 160 participants, where we investigate the impact of different types of errors on resulting trust, using both behavioural and subjective measures of trust. While we found a general effect of errors on reported and observed level of trust, no (...)

  • Just as they expected: How parents' expectations about their unborn child's characteristics provide a context for early transactions between parenting and child temperament.Alithe L. Van den Akker, Mirjana Majdandzic, Wieke de Vente, Jessica J. Asscher & Susan Bögels - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Prenatal expectations about what children will be like after birth may provide a context for how parents perceive their infant's actual temperament. We examined how these expectations and perceptions are associated and together predict early parenting behavior, with parenting behavior in turn predicting changes in temperament. Reports of 125 families about their expectations of their unborn child's temperament, their infant's temperament at 4 and 12 months post-partum, and their hostile, responsive, warm, and overprotective parenting were included. We also included data (...)

ObjectiveTo examine how physical and psychological childbirth experiences affect maternal perceptions and experiences of early infant behavioural style.BackgroundUnnecessary interventions may disturb the normal progression of physiological childbirth and instinctive neonatal behaviours that facilitate mother–infant bonding and breastfeeding. While little is known about how a medicalised birth may influence developing infant temperament, high impact interventions which affect neonatal crying and cortisol levels could have longer term consequences for infant behaviour and functioning.MethodsA retrospective Internet survey was designed to fully explore maternal experiences (...)

  • Differential human factors in user data.Clemens Stachl - unknown
This thesis investigates how differential human factors, such as demography and personality, are related to actual individual behavior. Within this broad context, this work addresses the prevailing lack of real behavior in the scientific field of psychology and differential-/social psychology in particular. Furthermore, this work provides an introduction to the practice of data-logging as a promising alternative to self-reports for the collection of behavioral data. Additionally, we introduce new data-analytical concepts from the field of machine learning in order to appropriately (...)
