Our aim in this article, after providing the general framework of the reception of William James in Spain, is to trace the reception of The Varieties of Religious Experience through Unamuno’s reading of this book.

Este artículo explora el problema de la síntesis entre vitalismo y racionalismo, dentro de la filosofía contemporánea. Para ello comparamos las trayectorias intelectuales de Georges Canguilhem (1904-1995) y José Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955). Se contrastan sus concepciones de la filosofía como saber “híbrido”, vinculado a la ciencia, así como sus puntos de vista sobre el vitalismo, la antropología, la técnica y el perspectivismo. Para evitar que la comparación sea puramente abstracta y ahistórica, se recurre al método de la sociología de (...) la filosofía. Esto obliga a situar ambas trayectorias en sus respectivos campos filosóficos y unidades generacionales, atendiendo también a su procedencia social y a su carrera profesional. (shrink)

The article discusses the philosophy of sportive existence, as put forward by Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset. Ortega is widely recognized as the major figure in Hispanic philosophy in the 20th century. Sports are an integral aspect of Ortega's philosophical output, both as aids toward understanding more general issues in ontology and philosophical anthropology and as explicit topics for reflection and analysis in and of themselves. Issues to do with sports and the sportive aspects of life were central to (...) Ortega's reflections on the nature of the human condition. Ortega argued that in many ways, the figure of the sportsperson represented more than any other symbol the human being's quintessence. (shrink)

Početak 20. stoljeća određen je dubokim potresanjem temelja na kojima je bilo sazdano svo znanje akumulirano tijekom prethodna tri stoljeća u okviru napretka znanosti i tehnike započetog u 17. stoljeću. Dva su imena, između ostalih, vrlo značajna za ovaj slijed događanja – Ludwig von Bertalanffy i José Ortega y Gasset. Kroz dvije različite perspektive ovaj rad pokazuje gotovo istovremena nastojanja dvojice znanstvenika, dvojice intelektualaca, koji su, uz pomoć mnogih svojih prethodnika koji su ih nadahnjivali, iznijeli teorije u mnogočemu različite od (...) dominantnog svjetonazora epohe u kojoj su živjeli i stvarali. Zajednički je nazivnik Bertalanffyja i Ortege y Gasseta u okviru ovog rada pojam sistema, koji se nastoji ocrtati iz obje perspektive kako bi se u konačnici povukle paralele i uočile sličnosti filozofske misli jednoga i drugoga. U okviru ovoga rada sistem je, u najširem smislu, princip po kojem se događa i odvija život, kod Bertalanffyja promatran primarno iz biološke perspektive, a kod Ortege y Gasseta iz one povijesne.
