  1. Taxing Meat: Taking Responsibility for One’s Contribution to Antibiotic Resistance.Hannah Maslen, Julian Savulescu, Thomas Douglas, Patrick Birkl & Alberto Giubilini - 2017 - Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics 30 (2):179-198.
Antibiotic use in animal farming is one of the main drivers of antibiotic resistance both in animals and in humans. In this paper we propose that one feasible and fair way to address this problem is to tax animal products obtained with the use of antibiotics. We argue that such tax is supported both by deontological arguments, which are based on the duty individuals have to compensate society for the antibiotic resistance to which they are contributing through consumption of animal (...)

  • Implicancias prácticas del liberalismo igualitario: criterios de equidad tributaria.Cristián A. Fatauros - 2016 - Análisis Filosófico 36 (1):75-101.

  • Justice and the Meritocratic State.Thomas Mulligan - 2018 - New York: Routledge.
Like American politics, the academic debate over justice is polarized, with almost all theories of justice falling within one of two traditions: egalitarianism and libertarianism. This book provides an alternative to the partisan standoff by focusing not on equality or liberty, but on the idea that we should give people the things that they deserve. Mulligan argues that a just society is a meritocracy, in which equal opportunity prevails and social goods are distributed strictly on the basis of merit. That (...)

  • Ownership and convention.Shaun Nichols & John Thrasher - 2023 - Cognition 237 (C):105454.
The basis of property rights is a central problem in political philosophy. The core philosophical dispute concerns whether property rights are natural facts, independent of human conventions. In this article, we examine adult judgments on this issue. We find evidence that familiar property norms regarding external objects (e.g., fish and strawberries) are treated as conventional on standard measures of authority dependence and context relativism. Previous work on the moral/conventional distinction indicates that people treat property rights as moral rather than conventional (...)
