  1. Information and Computer Ethics.Richard A. Spinello - 2012 - Journal of Information Ethics 21 (2):17-32.
This paper reviews the intriguing history of information and computer ethics. Information ethics began as a branch of applied ethics concerned with the responsible management of information resources, while computer ethics was originally concerned with the training of computer professionals. Thanks to the Internet and the Web, these two fields merged together as access and communications issues became more prominent. In more recent years, responding to the ongoing debate about this discipline's structural foundations, philosophers like Floridi have given information ethics (...)

  • Computer Ethics as a Field of Applied Ethics.Herman T. Tavani - 2012 - Journal of Information Ethics 21 (2):52-70.
The present essay includes an overview of key milestones in the development of computer ethics as a field of applied ethics. It also describes the ongoing debate about the proper scope of CE, as a subfield both in applied ethics and computer science. Following a brief description of the cluster of ethical issues that CE scholars and practitioners have generally considered to be the standard or "mainstream" issues comprising the field thus far, the essay speculates about the future direction of (...)

  • On Floridi’s metaphysical foundation of information ecology.Rafael Capurro - 2008 - Ethics and Information Technology 10 (2-3):167-173.
The paper presents a critical appraisal of Floridi’s metaphysical foundation of information ecology. It highlights some of the issues raised by Floridi with regard to the axiological status of the objects in the “infosphere,” the moral status of artificial agents, and Floridi’s foundation of information ethics as information ecology. I further criticise the ontological conception of value as a first order category. I suggest that a weakening of Floridi’s demiurgic information ecology is needed in order not to forget the limitations (...)

  • Using Authentic Case Studies to Teach Ethics Collaboratively to School Librarians in Distance Education.Lesley Farmer - 2014 - International Journal of Cyber Ethics in Education 3 (1):1-20.
This chapter explains how case studies can be used successfully in distance education to provide an authentic, interactive way to teach ethical behavior through critical analysis and decision-making while addressing ethical standards and theories. The creation and choice of case studies are key for optimum learning, and can reflect both the instructor’s and students’ knowledge base. The process for using this approach is explained, and examples are provided. As a result of such practice, students support each other as they come (...)
