  1. Solidarity in Academia and its Relationship to Academic Integrity.Jolanta Bieliauskaitė - 2021 - Journal of Academic Ethics 19 (3):309-322.
This paper provides the theoretical analysis of forms of solidarity in academia and its relationship to academic integrity. This analysis is inspired by the Guidelines for an Institutional Code of Ethics in Higher Education drawn up by the International Association of Universities and the Magna Charta Observatory. These Guidelines refer to the principle of solidarity in the context of international cooperation between higher education institutions. However, the author of this paper believes that this principle might also be used in a (...)

  • Patterns and Predictors of Academic Dishonesty in Moldovan University Students.Bob Ives & Lenuta Giukin - 2020 - Journal of Academic Ethics 18 (1):71-88.
A total of 1390 university students from five public Moldovan universities completed a survey reporting their experiences and beliefs with respect to 22 types of academic misconduct. An interpretable five-factor solution to the frequencies of these behaviors accounted for more than half of the total variance. The two most reliable predictors were 1) how often students witnessed other students engage in these behaviors, and 2) perceived acceptability of the behaviors. Demographic predictors of these behaviors (gender, academic specialty, year in school, (...)

  • Students’ Perceptions of University Corruption in a Spanish Public University: A Path Analysis.Martín Julián & Tomas Bonavia - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Most research on corruption in educational settings has focused on a cross-national and macro-level analysis; however, to our knowledge, few papers have sought to explore individual perceptions that explain corruption in higher education. The present research aimed to disentangle students’ predictors of corrupt intention in a Spanish public university. A total of 933 undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students filled out an online survey measuring four corruption scenarios: favoritism, bribery, fraud, and embezzlement. Path analysis revealed that justifiability, risk perception, and perceived (...)

  • Corruption Detection Systems and Skills, and Employee Retention in South African Universities.Bethuel Sibongiseni Ngcamu & Evangelos Mantzaris - 2023 - Journal of Academic Ethics 21 (3):519-539.
The superfluous and systemic problem of fraud and corruption in South African universities has intentionally paralysed internal control measures that detect and combat corruption. This reality has been aggravated by the deployment of unskilled workers in strategic positions in universities, driving the corruption agenda and frustrating those skilled quality employees capable of operating the systems that detect and combat corruption. This article explores employees’ experience and knowledge in previously disadvantaged universities relating to operating systems that enable the detection and prevention (...)
